ONE track only?

this is frustrating. Just when I thought I had it all worked out, my latency issues, my clipping/distortion issues...I don't. Problem: I can only record one track(ex: guitar) w/o distortion problems. If I lay down another track in that same file, say on track 2, i run into major digital pops and clicks. Changing the buffer size completely solved that problem before, but apparently only by recording an initial track. after that, the distortion comes back ten-fold.
if this is a software issue, i'm doomed cuz Bias is terrible, they charge major fees.
i was thinking about changing my preamp for one that has a pad, to keep the signal from being too hot, but changing the buffer size totally solved that, however, for one track only. i'm hoping someone has had similar problems and remedies...this is so lame.

it could be any number of things. Your gear profile says you are using a 600mHz computer, which, in theory is large enough for quite a few tracks. Have you made sure you have the most current software drivers for running your edirol device or downloaded any bug fixes for it. And also do the same for the software you are recording with as well as your OS.

... I'm not familiar with your card but... be sure you followed the manufactures installation directs to the letter... I keep messing this up on my Q10... If I switch slots it wants to reinstall (obviously) I have to click cancel and _not_ do the windoze install and run the Aardvark install program to uninstall the previous driver completely.. reboot.. cancel install again and run aardvarks install.. then it's perfect... well good enough for windoze :)

However not following that path I would get a ...uh.. tone of some sort... on 2 of the playback channels or (the fun one) the channels would shift to the left 2 spaces... so I plug in to hardware channel 1 and it comes in on software channle 9 and had a good 30db of crosstalk only on software 9&10. ...crazy stuff

A 600mhz computer should be able to do a few tracks though reverb will probably cause some problems... Also check to see if your harddisk is operating in DMA or PIO mode ... should be able to check in device manager... It should be in DMA mode... or you may have an old harddisk too. A 5400rpm drive in PIO mode might have problems...

heh not that I've taken the time to read your profile... you probably have a device conflit with the firewire harddisk. go to device manager and check your IRQ's the firewire card will need a dedicated IRQ ... Not sure of what windoze flvor yore useing... it is very possible that the USB port and the firewire port are conflicting... that would definatly cause that type of problem...
