As I'm sure I've made plainly obvious (whether intentionally or not), I'm fairly new to all of this, so I apologize if this is a really stupid question.
I've been trying to set up my copy of Cubase SL 2.0 for a bit now (ok, not trying THAT hard) and I've been running into a snag. I'm running playback and recording externally through an M-Audio Firewire 410. This is pretty much my sound-card on the machine I'm using. Every time Cubase tries to test the ASIO interface (correct terminology?), it fails the test, losing synch almost every time. Is there something inherently bad about the 410 or am I just missing an easily tweakable setting that I need to monkey with to get this to work. I essentially plan to record both MIDI and audio through this and want to avoid latency and all that jazz as much as possible. My comp is an Athlon 2800 with 512 megs of ram (Yeah, I know - I need to fill out that profile. ^_-).
Any help that can be offered would be much appreciated.

Jul 28, 2004 10:21 am I have not used Cubase in a couple years, but, the first advice I always give in this situation is make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card and for the firewire interface, and make sure you have all the latest updates for Windows and Cubase.

Jul 28, 2004 10:43 am Is there a site other than Windows Update that would be a pretty good general resource for drivers? Failing that, I'll shoot over to the manufacturer sites and give that a shot.

Jul 28, 2004 11:11 am I never realized just how specialized some of this stuff can be. Coming from the arena of computer gaming - wherein all hardware is supported by everyone and Microsplat works overtime to keep drivers up to date, etc... definitely some culture shock.

Jul 28, 2004 10:23 pm If you cant find what you want at the manufacturer's site try www.driverguide.com they do require you to join, but I have had extrememly good luck going through them. But M-Audio should have recent updates for the drivers available easily.

Sep 09, 2004 12:24 pm I had issues with my firewire control surface/ audio midi interface as well. It ended up being that the firewire device was not compatible with the chipset used in the firewire I/O device that came pre-installed in my motherboard. I ended up buying a PCI firewire card with a different chipset and it worked. I guess the lesson to be learned is that you have to contact the maufacturer of your audio gear and make sure its compatible with all your computer hardware that it has to interface with.
Hope that helped.
