I had everything set to get a live-room recording last Saturday . Got tuned-up, reached over, and moved the mouse, and found some message about a "bulk file dump", or something ? So, I reset it, and find it wont boot from the HD, in fact it doesn't even 'see' that it's there .
No new hardware has been installed since the MAudio2496, and that has been working fine for weeks . I did put some downloads on recently, though . Is my hard drive wiped ???

As soon as the post from your motherboard is done, press F8, that should bring up a menu of booting options, boot to a command prompt, then, at the prompt, just type "dir" and it will list out the folders on your drive.

Now, you hard drive is not whipped, but it sounds like your boot sector probably is...bluk file dump was dumping all of what was sitting in RAM to the hard drive due to an eminent hardware failure...or, as I recall that is what that is...it's been a while since I've done much tech work tho, so my memory might be off...

I wonder if this is due to me inadvertantly puting it a little too close to a sub-woofer this weekend ?

Thanks dB .

Although I might have to be there personally to determine exactly what's wrong (tech support is a b**** over message boards/ the phone) I will say that the magnetic field from the subwoofer wouldn't do that at all; unless you were physically wiping the magnet back and forth on the hard drive, I wouldn't worry about that being a cause.

As for what actually IS the problem, I might open up your case and make sure the cabels to/from the hard drive are plugged in well. I'm not sure why, but this has been the root of the problem a couple of different times for me. On a semi-related note, is this PC custom built or is it 'manufactured'? (Dell, Gateway, HP, etc.)

Good advice [ins]anarchist.

Additional info that would be helpful is how far the PC gets before it dies. Does the MoBo even post? Does it get to the Windows startup screen then blink off? Any error messages?

weird that...i read this post tonight and my girlfriends machine did the exact same thing today...hers gets to the screen that says XP with the knight rider swooshy bars at the bottom then hits that blue screen...watched it load part by part, and it freezes on mup.sys, whatever that is...

Yup, that's about the crux of it . Thought I had it fixed, too 'cause when I upgraded to XP, things worked ok for a bit so... being so happy to be stuck in the studio all weekend, I went out and picked up Acid 4.0, and try to install it, just to find even weirder things happening, and then the Kernal error again . Happens just like it does to Flame .
Maybe it is the cable being loose ?... A break on this thing would be appreciated .

Its possible your hard drives are failing, which sometimes happens slowly, and usually sucks. If you want to get your stuff off of the drive, plug it into another computer (kids', friend's, etc.) MAKING SURE THE OTHER COMPUTER HAS A DECENT ANTIVIRUS INSTALLED to prevent a domino effect. You should be able to get your stuff off of there that way...
