heres what i do-
open the header of the spam- find the ip addr in the [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] "hard brackets" copy the addr (this is the addr of the network that allowed the spam to enter the internet)
then go here ww1.arin.net/whois/
paste the addr
that will give you an isp. you may have to goto latnic, apnic ect from there, but you'll find it.
then write a short note like

I think this spam originated from or came through your service (s), if so please take action to stop this. enclosed is the spam and the header.
anthony donahue (Virginia Resident)
global svcs corp
[email protected]

then, fwd the spam to the "[email protected]" that you found. also in the fwd include the [email protected] addr cause they track spam

after that, copy and paste the whole header after your message. then send away.
by copying and pasting the info and can do about 4 a minute (cause now i know most of the isp ranges by addr.)

its very satisfying to get replys from isp's saying they are taking action against the spammers popping up on thier networks.

the number in hard brackets cant be forged, (its really the only evidence that cant be tampered with)
anyway, i hate hate hate spammers

Way too much work, I just use SpamBayes and filter it out so I don't see it.

filtering doesnt affect the spammers. i let it flow and complain- unless im on travel then i put my filters on

I know it doesn't...ultimately, very little does...and I don't have time to grab IP's, do reverse DNS lookups and send an email...I just have better things to do with my time...

Some of the guys who make all those crazy viruses should make one that attacks spammers. Sort of like a hostile defense mechanism. Fight fire with fire!

Idiot.

that's a double-edged sword though Mauz - I can betcha that the spammers would find a way to make said defense mechanism blow up in your face... :)

This is the link to the "Do-Not-Spam" list at the federal trade commission. I didn't think it would work, or would only stop 1 or 2 spams. Well I went from 40/day down to 7 today. So give it a shot. It seems that you can get removed from spam lists.....

Just for the hell of it, I added a couple test addresses to that database, that were getting 1-2 spam a day. They are now getting 120-140 spam a day. Soo....
