forum suggestion

at the top of the forum you have:
topic, posted, first-last, posts, last post

could this not be condensed or at least re-worded to:
topic, posted by, last post, replies, last post

the first-last thing is kinda confusing
as i said.. just a suggestion

Ya, I thought it was confusing too...I just didn't know how else to fit it all in there, as you see your way takes up about 4 more characters, when my motivation was trying to keep most characters avaiable for the "topic" statement...I'll try it your way though and see how it looks.

Maybe we don't even need "last post", now the topic title will wrap sooner...I dunno, those are easy changes, we can play with those as time moves on.

hmm if you want more space for topic name.. it can probably be reworded.. ill think of some stuff..

and also is there a way to get a link to go back to the forum after reading each post or do you mean for us to use the back button that our browsers have given us ehhehe

Well, let's think about that for a second, collapse...there is only one "forum" rather than multiple forums like before (I hate multiple forums when they aren't necessary) SO either the "Home" link or the "Message Forum" link in the left main navigation gets you back to the forum...so what are you asking for? Another link above or beneath the thread? Or someplace else...I am kinda confused by your request...

Let us not create another monster. I am not fond of going back and forth either but I think we can live with clicking back to get at the message's. I know I will miss getting the new post's forwarded to my e-mail though. It did seem to make it easier. Time will lead us down the path of rightousness. Oh by the way, I found my way here, it came up about 10:30 Thursday evening. I want my signature back to.

now i got an idea.. this one isnt as thick headed as my last one heheh

how hard would it be to get the ability to quote something someone said? would anyone else even have a use for it?

i know on the other boards i visit (dont worry no other home recording boards) i use this option a lot to make sure people know to whom i am directing my statement to.

ya, I have thought about that one...but I figured I would spend my time building stuff that mattered more, as to quote someone the poster can simply copy and paste the quote :-)

I will put it on the to-do list though...

I know you must have 1,000 things to do to get this site the way you want it, but since you asked for suggestions, I would offer this one. How hard would it be to set up something like what you and noise have, the email that is sent to you when there is a new post. BUt instead of receiving every post in an email, it just sends you an email about something that you posted. I think it might be more woek than its worth, but I know that when I post, I eagerly sit and wait to check back here to see if I have received a reply. (Ok, not that eagerly, but it'd be cool). I know that we register now, so all our emails are there. For instance, during the day I keep MSN messenger up and it tells me when I have a new email. Just an idea and I don't want to seem ungrateful for all that is here, just a thought. Thanks.

Ya, I knew the email alert request would be coming shortly as well, I have thoughts on how to implement it, but that is part of the reason I went down to 1 forum, we have a lot of traffic here, but not so much that we need more than one, therefore, it makes it much easier to just stop by the front page and see...know what I mean, since you can't come here unless you online, and you can't get email alerts unless you are online, it's kind of a wash...I do want to put that feature in here, but it isn't super high on the priority list.

It was easy for Noize and myself becuase we are administrators so we are easy to pick out of the user database, it is a little tougher with members and contributors.

Yeah, I was thinking after I wrote that that since you are already online its not that big a deal, and having only one forum, you're right, its a lot easier. Also, just a compliment, I really like being able to see who was the last person who posted, it makes it easier to see when someone has replied, and the date and time are really nice as well. I know there was something about that, but I think its great.

Cool, thanks, as a whole I have gotten very positive feedback on the new format, to be quite honest I am surprised, I though I would loose a lot of you because the site is smaller and stuff (for now) I didn't know what kind of a reception to expect, everyone seems to be happy...

This was my first experience into programming an entire community by myself from the ground up, as a whole I am happy with it's stability and how the integration is working between all the components of the community. Aside from the additional content I want to bring from the old site (more of the links and the old "HRC Recommends" piece), there are really only a few more component I want to add before calling this community a complete community, I want to add an opinion poll, an email checker so each person can set it up to check there own email right here (frivolous, I know, but kinda cool) and some other features to the forum, such as personal avatars, signatures and cheesy crap like that...lots of forums have them, so I feel I have to just to keep up, even if the impact is minimal. Personal Avatars would be easy, I just don't have the time to get a whole collection of them...if anyone can zip up a hundred or more Avatars, let me know, and email them to me! If I had the images, I could imlement the technology in minutes...
