recorded in someone elses studio, and which hrc members studio would you like to record in?

i reckon each studio set up will bring out its own sound, even on the same song ya see

just thinking out loud really, but feel free to contribute :-)

hmm... good question.

yes, i think things would be quite different in another studio... especially acting as the 'musician' and letting someone else engineer it.

i'm not fully aware of anyone else's setup but i dig some of the stuff coolo drops.

wow, thanks el musico. actually, I still think of myself as a novice as far as the act of recording goes. I think my strength is editing and adding effects to sound files. So, I guess, I really wouldn't be someone you want recording your stuff if you want good results.

Anyhow, I'd be curious to hear how my stuff would come out if PorpoiseMuffins or Walt were my engineers, and well, el musicos and noizes stuff always sound "pro" to me, so that would be cool too.

Well, I like my own for sure but if I had to pick another that would be tough for sure. Not to dis any body else but I would probly go with jues as he is familier with heavy synth use so might be a good choice for an enginer and adviser for me. But I have to agree with el musico on coolo as he manages to keep things at a pretty level pace, and that is something I loose track of when I get playing around with all the synths and stuff.

Carefull Coolo! Truth be known, I would be highly honored to engineer a piece for you, but, carefull what you ask for! Self admittedly I am a hobbiest. In fact for my next trick (rabbit out of hat) I am going to suspend some panels over a drummers head with a car hoist while using other panels placed around him to "tune" a room for him. Definately not the controlled atmosphere that Noise can come up with. More Mad Wally approach!

Always making use of the area you have. That is the key, and Walt you do a great job of that from what I have listened to so far. The inovative approach is always good.

I never could go into a studio just as a musicain. That is probly why I learned to enginer myself as in those days there werent many studio's that let you do what you wanted. They always thought they knew what was best and werent much into experimenting.

well I dont think i would know what to do with most of the equipment you guys have. I think that to name a few, Flame's (i like his use of reverbs and such) would be interesting. Walt's garage sounds unique also, and seemingly laid back atmosphere of TonyD's would be cool. And Jues, Noize, and dB would be good for a very professional polished sound.

To be honest it would be very interesting as well as expanding to engineer with a number of folks here. I'm redicent to print names as I have never listened to other folks works with the thought of having their "sound" applied to one of my projects. I have heard many works here that I admire for different reasons. How to go about that exactly would be a little daunting. I could see shipping my raw tracks off to say Noise, (good incumbant, non-threatening, example) and then learning from his processes. But to share the actual capturing of sound might be combersome; but then again maybe not depending on the demeanor of the individuals. I have only shared that task with one other individual who quite frankly drove me knuts! But then, God love him, he always drives me knuts.... Hmmmmm Interesting concept. Maybe a good tangential application of the "colab" concept?

it would probably be impossible to produce somebody elses song completely, but i bet one person could send all the raw wav's, and do it that way. that could be interesting.

this band, the dismemberment plan (who are very good and worth checking out) recently did this project right before they broke up. they basically posted the master tapes to about 15 of their songs on their website, and then asked people to submit remixes of their songs. after receiving hundreds of them, they picked out 15 and released them as a cd.

as for the original question on this thread, haha, i think i would say walt, just because i'm sure working with a big band he has a lot of experience with arranging, and i would love to have brass or something in one of our songs (i'm particularly biased towards horns because i used to play trombone)

ug2102, that is how I produce most of the music I do these days. I never come face to face with most of the peeps I work with. I get the raw tracks either on CD or via download and work from there. It does make it a bit more interesting to do, and really faster in the long run. There are times that I may need a track redone, and I either get permision to do it here or just request another take or two.

Ouh, Ouh, Ug!

Too very cool. Nothing like a good bone to spice up a good jazz piece! We got one in the big band that is just superb! Wendy. She is all of 4.5 foot tall and we have to have her stand on a milk crate for solo's, but man can she wail! She just had a daughter and is finishing her doctorates in performance so she doesn't play too much at present, but as soon as I can snag her for a recording I will post it.
