Time to patch, another vulnerability from buffer overflows that I am sure some warm author will surely take advantage of.

A family hired me as "their computer guy" at $20 an hour and it's amaizing the mess a computer can get into when it's never updated and someone has a thing for porn and no virus scanner... finally got their XP box running and they have a ME box thats hozed... they're practically paying for my studio because they don't maintain anything...

Anyone know of a URL logger that is small, simple, free, and runs as a background process? It doesn't need to block anything just log...

Well, I am not sure about a URL logger, but I will check, I'd like to know too :-) But for the other issues, there is a GREAT free virus scanner www.grisoft.com/ and a great free software firewall www.sygate.com/ that will help that. Also, in the control panel of XP (and I think me) you can set Windows to autoupdate itself with critical updates, and even autoinstall them I believe. Works best if on broadband, but then, you know that much...

Ya, another neighbor just "beered" me into setting up his home network. That neighbor is a great guy and has quickly become a good buddy, but has no technical savvy so I am getting his three PC's (his work laptop, wifes work latop and family system) and his PlayStation 2 all on his broadband connection...sounds like about a 6-pack job :-)

This will be the second neighbor I have networked this year already.

Thanx dB, I think Im gonna put that on Tunas PC and watch what he does. He figured out how to get around me seeing were he has been so now this will give me a new way to watch the little geek if he is surfin around the naughty stuff. I like the fact it will run stealth as he has figured out how I watch him and I am afraid if I cant hide it he'll j ust find it and shut it down anyhow so the stealth thing is good. I may put it on all the boxes.

Just remember if you update with the new SP1a or whatever it is now, you will need to go download a JAVA app as they will remove it when installing SP1a or whatever.

noize - yuppers. they actually encourage on their website to do away with the java machine on your computer. I can see why because of spyware and what not. If anyone has any problems with spyware, use this free program which called CWS Shredder. The best damn app Ive found thus far....And of course, Ad-Aware 6.0

Noize - yeah Willy wants to make sure we actually "work" to get our updates to work properly lol!

Has anyone "fixed" up their box? Fast & Furious style to their computer? I dont know if thats a fad or its going to seriously be the new thing for years to come with computers. I'm looking to get a new box put together and the good old days of the ugly beige color cases are long gone. Now these days, its ground effects (lol) on the boxes, see through stuff and what not...amazing.

Ya, both the boyz and my new box are of the Fast And Furious type. The boyz box has a clear side panel with fan and front ports for everything as well as nice blue lights. It also runs very smooth over clocked with the new MSI MoBo in it running an AMD Athalon XP. My box is the same MoBo witha faster AMD chip and it ran for over 3 hours over clocked to 3.4 gig without missing a beat. The new MSI board has a built in set up that is made for over clockers and you can set everything via a nice software interface. It will also moniter temps and such to keep ya from torching an expensive chip, and can adjust fans speeds for case temp, CPU temp and northbirdge temp all independantly. It has a little better case then the boyz as well, no front lights but all the access up front for peripherals, clear sides and provisions for two rear, two front and one top side fan as well as a fan in the clear side. It is interior lighted although I will disable that. And I need to deaden the interior for sound as with the fans all running it is a bit noisey. But not nearly as bad as my old box with 4 drives 3 of which are removable with cooling fans as well as 4 case fans.

Ya, I have to get the film developed though as I dont have digital yet, but I will get them up as soon as I get them. And ya it was a choice between going with a rack for mine or doing a regular case and the aluminium case was way cheaper. Besides the rack I would have to put a rack mount case in is too far away to be usefull as far as popping a CD in and out of.
