Hey everyone just had a question. I'm looking for something to let me get my audio from my mixer into the comp cause im sick of recording onto MD then having to transfer it. The Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96 and teh Mbox are the two ones i had in mind. Does anyone have any complaints or opinons about either? Tips or anything would be great! thanks

EDIT: I dont know if this should go here or in the Computer forum, if this is the wrong place could someone just let me know and I'll gladly move it. Thanks again.

I wouldn't go with the MBox cuz of the whole ProTools tie and stuff. The Aardvark would be a sweet card, I use the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 which, as I recall, has very similar features, and it's a GREAT card.

However, without knowing what it is you plan to do with it as far as number of tracks needed, the software you plan to record with and stuff like that, it's hard to recommend much...

Well right now I have a UB1204 FX mixer just for some small track by track recording which i used the MD for. Im planning on buying a bigger mixer to record with a couple of area bands and for my own experimentations - Was looking at the Eurodesk MX9000 or MX3282A - Sonar 3 is my software

- What is the ProTools Tie? If i bought the Mbox do i need to use ProTools for it to work?

Thanks for the quick reply!

The 1204 is a nice little mixer, I have the same version, bigger model, the 1622...FXPro...sweet units...I as well use Sonar 3 and love it. Sonar has recently added support for DigiDesign products to their line, so the MBox would work, but as a rule DigiDesign products are built to work best with DigiDesign software, namely, ProTools, which is a decent piece of gear, but upgrading to bigger product in that line cost A LOT.

You COULD use Sonar with the MBox, but honestly you are best off using a more open piece of hardware such as Aardvark, M-Audio or something of the like...unless your goal is to ultimately spend thousands of dollars building a full ProTools rig.

I hate to bash ProTools, cuz it is common and it is good, but their business model kinda bothers me...lots of people use it including a lot of large Pro facilities (who can afford it).

Oh, and Welcome to HRC, don't think I have seen you around before...welcome aboard.

In my opinion...

Indeed, welcome to HRC. The audio interface you are looking at is a pretty good one. They did have a rough start in the industrie though with a lot of driver issues and such. Cant honestly say for the 2496 now but the Q10 has come along way and is still moving along. For the money though, there are several other choice out there that might work out better. There are several products from M-Audio that can give you the same and more for a little less money. And are easily expandable just like the Aardvark units.

Thanks guys, ive been reading these boards for awhile just never needed to post.

After some thinking, i agree, the 24/96 is out- too much money for what i want to do - that M-Audio Audiophile is looking pretty nice. Thanks for the suggestions!
