They look good, anything from m-audio is good. I have the BX8's and I love them. When the funds come in, I'm getting the subwoofer that goes with these. Check ebay, they have the bx5 probably cheaper then these. I got the BX8's for $400.

I dunno, I trust MAudio for making good gear, and I would LOVE to hear someones report on these, as I like the idea of being able to branch out to 5.1 as well.

Others for THAT purpose are service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear and service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear since I think 5.1 will become MUCH more common in the next couple years it pays to plan ahead, and an expandable setup like the MAudio is just that, good planning.

I love my SP5B's :) The M-Audio monitors are a great deal in my opinion. However, they are the only pair of monitors I've ever really used, so I don't know how objective my opinion is. They really do have a nice, flat frequency response, though. They even came with a picture of the spectrum and the monitor's response for each speaker, which appeared to be tested individually. I know nothing of the 2.1 system, specifically.

Why the 2.1 setup - Why not just go for the standard 2.

I personally think having a sub woofer in a monitoring setup is a bad idea - epsecially at "home reocrding" level. It's all too each to mess the bass levels up with one.

I personally only use 2, Tannoy Reveal Actives - very good imho.

I don't entirely agree, tho each has their own methods, and a very much respect jues' opinion, I think that as a rule even the best near-field monitors are weak on the bass, with few exceptions. This is just by nature of the driver size and how close they generally sit to the listeners ears...it take a few feet for bass to even fully develop...most peeps with nearfields have them less than 6 feet from their head (at the most, generally much closer).

Just my two cents.

Also, keep in mind you have to make darn sure the subs level is set proportional with the satellites or you will get a very uneven mix.

Yeah and that's just it - it's not easy to get the sub level's just right.

My Tannoys are rated down to 50Hz and they pump some nice low bass.

Anything under 50Hz gets gently rolled off in my mixes and heavily compressed - if there was anything down there that they had not picked up on then it won't really be causing my mixes a probelm.
