i dont know much about bit rates. yesterday i tried to make a wave file and burn to cd at 32 bit. the result was a whole lot of hiss and the song was barely audible beneath. why?

Nov 12, 2003 07:44 pm CD's only support up to 16-bit. I'm wondering how you got it on a CD at all...
Nov 12, 2003 08:22 pm What did you burn it with, if you burned it to red book standard maybe it automatically converted it to 16 bit...
Nov 12, 2003 08:39 pm Perhaps it didn't dither it or dithered it funky or something
Nov 12, 2003 08:53 pm i used musicmatch jukebox to burn it. but it was completely inaudible. just the ghost of the song below the hiss was detectable.
ok. so now i know what dither is for. work in 32 bit, dither down to 16.

Nov 12, 2003 08:56 pm or just work in 16bit in the first place.
It's a long argument with no real answer.
Nov 12, 2003 09:00 pm good, i'd prefer to just stay in 16 bit.
