FruityLoops

Hi all,
Db, if you remember you once recommended FruityLoops as a good piece of software. Could any of you Gurus out there give me an example or two as to how I would apply this app in the production of acoustic music?
I've been fooling around with this app for a few days and like it along with its nice samples, but can't quite figure out how to use it in a creative sense.
Thanks...I hope I don't sound too stupid with this question.

For starters, it may not be for you, but, what I do with it is sequnce drum tracks and stuff like that. Rhythm sections, synth samples vacal tracks and everything you can imagine can be done in fruityloops. I really don't know how to answer your question because I don't know what you want from it. I know a couple folks that never use the poular apps like cakewalk, cubase and vegas because they do everything in FruityLoops from recording to mixing to exporting to a stereo wav...

depends on what you mean by "acoustic music"..
are you referring to real instruments? acoustic guitars? or using in conjunction with real instruments?

it can do your drum sequencing, your samples, any synth work.

and how so in a creative sense? like how to literally use it?

perhaps im reading too deeply into it.. but im confident i can provide an answer with more information =)

Thank,
Sorry I didn't include more details Collapse and dB. I will mostly be using what I call Organic instruments from world cultures. I play percussion (Hand drums and a variety of small percussion "Not Toys" from Africa and its Diaspora). I'm currently in Sonny Rollins band.
I also play rare African American musical instruments such as the Diddly Bow, One String Jitterbug, Old Moonshine Jugs to name a few along with Jews Harps and other goodies from down south.
I work mostly with Jazz artists and Vocalists and have recorded extensively for most of my short life. Most of my friends also play instruments from around the world...Conch shells, Double reed horns etc. etc.
I have and continue to score for mostly Dance Companies and Theater. I've worked on a few Movies.
Though I have spent a ton of time recording for others I have greatly neglected my person by never releasing any music under my name, except the works that I created for some major dance companies. I live in NYC and cannot and will not spend the type of money they are asking for at these studios. I want my own small humble studio and this site has greatly encouraged me and helped me understand that this is possible. I also have no experience running any of the software that helps one to create music. I am however computer literate, (Windows and Linux) especially with help from you guys :>)

I will also be recording vocals with the above instruments and using a Roland XV 5080 that will be triggered with an old DX7. I will also like to
Sequence drum tracks also once I figure out how-to

A friend who produces Hip Hop showed me some things on Fruity Loops this pass weekend and I really dug it. He showed me how to create a basic loop.. And thanks to your response dB I'm now aware that it can be used in other ways. BTW Collapse, is any of your music on the web for downloading.I would like to hear what Fruity has done for you?

Peace!
Gus

The above text in the post before this looks like it has some HTML errors in it. Just so you know db, I copied and pasted it from MS Word with I have done before for spell checking reasons.

Ya, Gus, Word makes some funky characters sometimes that HTML encoding doesn't know what the heck to do with, I fixed your post.

OK, you the unique instrument guy from the old forum, I remember now! Considering your style, an spp like FruityLoops might take away some of the unique characteristics of some of those sounds by sampling them they may not be an accurate representation of them, on the other hand, by giving some modern technology to them, it may breathe some new, modern life and sound into them...I would advise try it, maybe it will help ya, maybe it won't, ya never know until you try :-)

Sequencing sounds, be they MIDI or wav samples, always takes a little bit of emotion and life out of the sound, but sometimes that exactly what you want...

Give it a shot, and let us know how it works for ya...I'd be curious.

Also, I remember once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away a very active member of our community was gonna write a FruityLoops tutorial, which I was really looking forward to, because I know I don't use it to it's full potential, or even close to...who was that???

Oh, ya, it was you collapse ;-)

Hey Gus, I will second dB on the use of Fruity to bring new life to sound's. My greatest pleasure comes from people trying to figure out what a sound started out as. I use many program's some of which are 10 time's the price of Fruity loop's to twist sound's and create new sample's. Fruity Loops is a very intuitive program, and can do thing's with sample's you put in that can't be done in some other program's. You can take a simple drum beat and with the tweaking of a few virtual knob's create a vaporis washing rythem that is completly removed from the original instrument, or only bring it part way and leave some trace. All in all, for the price it is one of my favorite program's for making loop's and so on.

P.S. I would love to hear some sample's of anything you come up with. I am familiar with Sonny Rollin's music, and you sound like you are into some pretty unique percusion instrument's.

Ok Noize, once I start sampling I'll beam you some stuff along with my "Real" name. Its just a matter of me spending some time learning the software and buying a sound card and break out box. I'll pick up those things the end of next week once I decide what I'm going to buy. I will more than likly buy from musician friends to throw some suport to this site which I love. I'll be out on the west coast this weekend - mid next week with Sonny so by the beginning of the following week I'll upload some sounds on my server for you to taste.

BTW what are some of the other programs that you use to "twist sounds and create samples"

Peace out!

Oh geez, Gus, now you asked for it, ya just opened the flood gates by asking Noize what he uses.....I'll let him get into detail, the one thing I can tell you is that the title "GearWhore" has been tossed around his direction many times.....

Can't wait to hear some of those samples of yours, sounds like some very interesting, unique stuff you're doing...
