Great weekend

OK, I gotta say, this was a great weekend.

Beyond the fact the wife and I completed our conceal and carry class, I got tons of spring cleaning done and all that other stuff, I had one, notable, HRC related moment:

My Freemason Lodge held a pancake breakfast to raise money for our scholarship fund... annually, we give small scholarships to kids that have had special education, to attend trade school after graduation within our area. Which is great because those same kids are overlooked by the vast majority of scholarship programs.

Long time, and respected, HRC member, J-Bot, and the fetching Mrs. J-bot, showed up for the breakfast. It was awesome to meet him and his wife. Sadly, I didn;'t have the time I would have like to have had to sit and shoot the **** and hang out, but it was awesome to see them.

Made my weekend...and we had the most successful breakfast ever, I believe.

I know I said it before, but I'll say it again, it was good ta meetcha in the flesh, dB. It was nice to get some time to chat at the breakfast. If nothing else, volunteer work keeps ya busy haha. Also, yeah, 4 years + change being an HRC member. Might not be as old a member as some of the others around here, but I try to do my part. The time spent on these forums has been a big part of what's helped me improve my techniques and understanding of concepts over the years. I've gained confidence in my abilities enough, that I'm planning to start up a "mobile" recording service for the local Iowans in the area. Granted I need to get out, and start advertising/making connections/spreading interest, but yeah, it will be good to get my feet wet recording some of the locals. :)

It was a nice trip. After the breakfast, we went out to the Mall of America, and did some shopping/looking around/etc. The wife and I had a good time, and brought home some goodies from ye olde MOA.
The fancy Paciugo gelato shop up on the third level of the mall was great. :) I wish our Capanna's here would do gelato espresso shakes :(

We decided to see John Carter (not a bad flick) and went back to the mall this morning after checking outta the Burnsville Fairmont. We were going to go check out the aquarium, but my wife decided she didn't want to pay the 30 bucks to go see the fishies.

It was a nice weekend outing, and the drive wasn't too horribad. It's about the same length driving to Chicago, which we used to do in the past when we went to fly out to places. We left the mall around 2:30pm, and were home by 7:30pm with a couple quick stops along the way. Nowhere near as bad as the drives we used to do up to North Carolina from Gainesville FL. Plus we switched off, so each of us only really drove about 2 hours and change. :)

Who knows, might head up that way again some time before we move out of state (in about a year, roughly.) Heather's post-doc work will be over, and she'll be looking for a full-time faculty position in a college somewhere that has a neuroscience program.....preferably in the southeast, though I don't mind the cold weather here.....usually. Gotta say this winter has been freakishly mild. The Iowa river has some sand/silt bars showing up, so it's gone down a whole helluvalot.

Next time we head up that way, I'll make it a point to go hunt down Noize. In all honesty, I didn't expect him to be at the breakfast what with the late nights working the stages as he mentioned. But at least I got some face time with one of you rascals. ;)

Also, the dust from doing the taxes has mostly settled, so I've got the dosh to start purchasing the gear to start up my recording service. It's been a good weekend. :D

That's awesome guys!

The scholarship fund sounds like a good idea too, for the reasons db stated.

coolo, hey, one of the other members I actually got to meet face to face...there ain't many of ya!

Yeah, it's a good philanthropy...and the families are very, very appreciative. The scholarships aren't huge, but for a family with a special needs kid, that never expected to get anything at all, they are very happy.

The district has told us more than once that it is one of the most competitive scholarship programs they have because of the uniqueness of the target recipients, which is awesome.

Glad you had a good time here, J-Bot...there is a lot to do, I wish I would have had more time over the weekend to meet up for dinner/drinks or something...but, as you saw, I was pretty busy.

You wouldn't want to meet me in person. I'm mean, ugly, AND flatulent.

Freemason's eh? Aren't you the ones who hid that treasure from Nick Cage? You're Illuminati, right? I always knew it...

Yeah, Nick Cage has nothing us!

I love those movies! As well as the DaVinci Code...they make us sound so awesome!

It is tough to find time to plan taking over the world, what with our pancake breakfasts, spaghetti dinners, road cleanups and such things...
