Everybody records guitar- piano drums- how about some off the wall stuff like bagpipes- or accordian- any special tips on not so popular instruments??

Feb 08, 2012 07:58 am find the sound hole, should one exist, and stuff a mic in it...then, set a nice condensor a couple/few feet away, maybe midway between the sound hole and the nearest wall from it...it's always a decent starting point then having two tracks which to mix later for the total flavor...
If it doesn't have a sound hole it's kind of a proximity thing...try two or three mics at various locations on different tracks that you can mix to taste later.
Admittedly some very rough advise, but it's a place to start.
