VST's in Sonar 3 PE

I'm using Sonar 3 Producer Edition and I have the VST Adapter recognizing my VST plugins but when I go to use them in Sonar, they aren't available. It's been quite a while since I used the program and I'm sure I have overlooked something simple (I hope). Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Thanks, Kirk

I might suggest scanning them one at a time as well so you can make certain they are all getting scanned and set up properly.

Other then that they may be hidden in a sub category you need to highlite in the VST open menu.

Hmmmm . . . not showing up. I don't get it. I scanned each folder and each plug. Are they supposed to show up on their own VST menu when applying effects?

You should be able to right click on the track itself or the FX bin, preferably the FX bin. Then it will bring up a drop down menu and it will give you all the choices of available effects. There will be several that are breakouts for specific effects, one of which will simply say VST. Put the curser over that and it will show all the available VST effects you have.

If they are not showing up there may have been something that went wrong during the install of Sonar itself. Maybe an incorrect folder got specified or something along those lines

I just thought of one thing though. If they are 64 bit pluggins that could make them not show up. I went and tested a couple as I keep prior version's of Sonar installed to look for this kind of thing when it comes up and I noticed that those that were strictly 64 bit pluggins did not show up for use in the menu.

Actually, a good number (if not all) of these plugins are from a couple years ago (when I was using XP). Funny they show up in Acid.

So if your not using XP then what are you using now?

You do know that Sonar 3 was not built for Vista, nor were there any updates to make it Vista compatible?

If that is the case, then I think that may be the problem. As the VST wrapper was not meant to run in Vista and that is why they ported Sonar 5 and above with its own VST recognition on board.

Ugh! You hit the nail on the head there Noize. Vista! Oh well. I guess I can work it in a round about way if necessary. Drag trax from Sonar to Acid to utilize VST's if I really want to. I've never really direct recorded into Acid, so I don't know if that might be an option as well. Thanks for the heads up. Kirk

I have some patches for 3 but I'm sure none of them covered any kind of Vista support. But I'll look into it tomorrow night and let you know.

OK, none of the patches I have will deal with the Vista compatibility. Vista support didn't really staert until late in version 5 and was fully launched by 6. but Sonar will run, its just the VST adapter that has the real issue's.

For the record, the latest couple version of Cakewalk stuff deals with Vista just fine...so it seems upgrading would be in order.

Something worth reading if your thinking of upgrading.

www.cakewalk.com/SONARupgrade/

And yes, you will find all their products have taken a huge leap forward since version 3 of Sonar.
