Gone Shootin !!!!!! (need your opinion)

I had some spare time today so I finished up a cover of ACDC's "Gone Shootin". Give a listen and let me know how the mix sounds. Musicianship wise I know its bad. But sound wise, let me have it. I did two mixes. One I got a little more agressive with a master bus compressor. The other I didnt use much at all. Im playing all instruments and singing as usual, thats why its sloppy :) Anyway let me know if you like A or B better. Plus see if you can tell which has more compression (should be easy enough). Im on the fence about which sounds better.

I'm gonna have to go with B too. I like the punch in the drums in song A, but it sounds to me like everything's sitting better in the mix in song B.

Interesting. B, is the one with more compression. I personally like A better. Its more dynamic, and I think in B the kick drum gets lost at times in the mix. If I had put a seperate compressor on the kick during mixing, it would be better. But B to me seems more dirty sounding (if that makes sense), and less dynamic. Its actually a few db's lower too. After compressing it I didnt raise the makeup gain (I forgot). Oh well thanks for the views. Maybe if I tweak A a little more it would be better. Im really sort of on the fence with them. I like the edge B has, but I like the clarity of A too.

A is a good deal louder. So depending on whether you were limiting on B would be which got the compression. I can hear the pumping in A on the drums. Like it that way, Guitars as well have a bit of it to them.

My personal preference would be a mix between the two. There was a pretty good amount of clarity on both mixes for sure. I think its just A is louder then B so it tosses of the perception a bit.

B is surely a bit clearer though.

I thought the guitars were kinda low in the mix, everything sounded pretty good though in both mixes. I thought B sounded a bit better/fuller.

I did have a limiter on both mixes. The only change between the two was more compression on B. And the fact I didnt raise the overal level to match the rms of A. You may have the right idea Noize2u. I'll back the compressor off a little on B or a little more on A and raise the overal level. Just split the difference and be done :)

I did a mix using parallel compression. If interested here is the link. I think it sounds somewhere between A and B . I like this one the best.

Hrmmm, not sure if it's soundclick bugging up, but the parallel compressed track seems to have lost all its stereo width compared to A and B. It almost sounds like it was mixed down to mono to me.

Yep, fixed and good. Just what I was hearing in my head between the two mixes.

Sounds great. Gave it a lot more body, for lack of a better word at the moment.

Thanks Noize2u. Ive been getting alot of people saying my recordings are too clean. I guess thats good and bad. Good for orchestra music, bad for rock :) Oh well, maybe I should run stuff out to a cassette tape deck then back in to get that tape noise and analog feel. :)
