I havent had any hassels up till now with me new pre/ comp.

im using a different guitar amp, but im getting a kinda sway effect with my guitar recordings. actually it sounds really S##thouse.

it sounds quite good fom the amp so im thinking my compressor settings are askew.
could someone give me their/s input on this?
all im wanting from the compressor is to just tame the swing a bit on mutes so i have it set roughly as follows.

compression is +4
GR is 3 maybe 4dB.
attack is quite fast im not exactly sure but its quick but im thinking not too quick.( but hey thats why im asking bout it)
and the release is also quick.
slope is on 2:1. which i gather is ratio on this unit..
im still new to this unit and really to compression, as far as getting it right without doubt is concerend.

ive just been basicly getting the GR under control and making sure the output level on the pre is ok and on the pre input gain.

would really appreciate some feedback.
cheers.

What is the threshold set at? The threshold is the key when a comp kicks in. I normally set it to -10. So, when the signal reaches -10 dB, the comp starts it's process.

104 deg F for those without a converter.

Heat could play a bit of havok on gear but probly not like that. It might effect the mic or the speakers more.

Your settings look pretty tame for simply limiting. Have you tried backing down the comp amount yet at all?

Exactly what pre/comp are you using. I didn't see on in yer profile?

ok threshold is set at 2:1. and +4.

im using a Joe Meek pre wid comp built it.
so i did a recording with the comp off and that's definalty what's doing it.

would you bother with the comp going to computer or really just leave it for tape compression?
thats next on the adgenda though, so getting it sussed would be cool.

when you say back of the comp Noize you mean the ratio?
cheers for the speedy reply guys eh.

apart from that i cant beleive how good its sounding so far even with a pooy pickups. so getting this bit sussed would be sweet.

Ya, I guess for guitar I honestly rarely ever use compression going in. I find I get better results compressing if needed afterwords.

On the backing off I mean the threshold as Rob stated.

I had the same problem when I was using IE. I switched to Firefox and all of that went away.

Ya, IE has had a couple of issues with the last 2 security updates. I only use it on the main studio PC and on this one when I need to check something with it. Otherwise I don't use it at all for my main surfing app.
