Mesa Dual Rectifier w/ Voodu Valve, BBE 482, Hush Super C ?

I can't figure out how to set these up in my loop correctly. I've contacted all the manufacturers and they all tell me something different. I'm looking to get a sound like Cavalera Conspiracy or Sepultura (Chaos AD, Roots)

I play my Ibanez RG570 w/ EMG 81 through channel A of the Hush. As of now I only run the BBE in the FX Loop (send 1 o'clock, mix 11 o'clock) of my Dual Rectifier.

I can only hook up the Voodu Valve direct in or it gives terrible feedback and noise that seems like my amp is gonna blow, so I don't even use it. And direct seems to defeat the purpose of having a tube amp any way. Maybe I'm wrong?

I would love to know the correct way to use my gear to it's max potential. If there is any one that can help it would be much appreciated. Also if there is gear that would help me achieve the sound I'm after better let me know.

Thanks to anyone that gives this post a read!!!

Cheers,
Chris

First of all. A Mesa is too smooth for a Sepultura tone. But, I know we have to work with what we have. And I love Mesa so don't get me wrong. Sep, just has a nasty gritty over the top tone... Haha.

Second, you Voodoo will have a level setting in it, I suppose. And you should run it through the FRONT of your head. Running it through the efx loop can damage the head because of how tubes react to gain. If you are having an issue of feedback, just turn the output of your Voodoo down.

I hope you are just using the Voodoo for the efx and not the OD (if it has one.) Just figure out how to bypass it when you don't want the efx.

I've done that before but it only wanted to work on the clean channel, which of course I had to use the high gain channels. I would love to use the EQ's to help dial in the overdrive channels though. Could I run it through the FX direct channels in the back without damaging it or is direct front input the best way to go? Should I run the BBE in the front also?

I was also considering switching my Mesa Boogie for a Peavey XXX Head. I haven't had the chance to play one yet (which I would do before such a decision) but quick jams at Guitar Center never is enough to really see what it's all about. So far everything I heard from them sounds great. Even live. Considerably tighter and more pronounced without loosing any crunch. But then again I don't know what other gear is used with it. What do you think of the comparison?

The Voodoo should be able to get you close to the sound you are looking for though as it is a very capable unit. I do know some who ran it through the RX loop without problems.

I would suggest having a go at the manual, if you don't have one you can get it here. www.amptone.com/rocktronvooduvalve.htm

That should help you figure out the best way to get it hooked into your rig.

im using a 6505, 15band eq and a rocktron hush with a zoom 505 in front.

i have my pedal on 5 outta 30 wid the vol on about 20.
it takes away some of the head scratchyness.
the rocktron i just run thru my effects loop before the 15 band eq.
i find with the rocktron ya really gotta play with the settings on it, being careful not to smash it too hard or it takes the life out of yer sound.

also as many have already mentioned round here and im sure you proly already know, not too much distortion!
ya want that special sound only your amp can give, especially a mesa, to crank thru.
too much dist. will kill that fat string edge in whatever yer tuned to and make stuff sound too smooth.

having said this, whether it be useful to you or not, i still havent recorded with mine yet, as its too loud to crank
in my room without killing all lifeforms. im spewing but will be giving it a wurly soon.
to hell with the living.
except all you dudes...of course.

Do you think it would work better if I ran my BBE, Voodu Valve, and Hush all through the main input and bypass the FX loop all together? I just want to make sure I don't do anything stupid before I ask you guys. Thanks again!!

To be honest, I can't say. You need to be the judge of what sounds good to you.

Will it work, yes it should be fine. Although I'm a bit flustered as to why you were getting such a bad mojo with the Voodoo in the loop. That kind of bothers me as it should not have happened like that.

You simply need to experiment with the sound until you get what it is your after. There are no magic presets that will get it first time out.

My suggestions would be to try both the multi-effects and noise gate inline between the guitar and the amp's main input. Then the best place for the BBE is back in its box :) I hate those things.
