steelers and giants, 4 pm EST nationally tomorrow.

media is painting it as a battle of QBs. what would be your predictions for this game?

i have never picked before, but 27-17 steelers makes sense to me.

of course, we're missing holmes and aaron smith. it could wind up 20-17 pitt. i'll go with my first pick with the second as the backup.

I'm going with Pitt on that one as well, only for the home field advantage. 17-10 will be the score.

The Packers have a bye week, so they can't lose. The Vikings and Bears also have bye weeks, so they can't win.

Life is good.

I'll go with Jim on this one as well. Although odds are good I'll be missing the first half for sure. Hopefully getting home for the second half or at least the last quarter.

well that was a surprise to me.

still waiting for the day a patented big ben 4th quarter comeback occurs during a nationally televised high-profile game.

Well, as much crap as I give Ben (mostly just to poke forty with sticks) I will say this, he is one tough son of a *****...that close up on his thumb bent all up looked DAMN painful.

oh, man, they zoomed in one his hand as he was handing off to Mewelde Moore. His thumb was bent back on the ball. His thumb was almost next to his forearm...he handed off and immediately ran to the sidelines and got it taped up.

I'd have been crying like a little girl, it's looked painful as hell.

i saw that, but to me it looked like he was just holding it that way deliberately

hey real quick--on an unrelated note.

anyone ever think up a way to keep laptop power cords attached securely to the machine? im tired of having to plug and unplug all day--its not good for the battery and its pointless. i just want a way to stay plugged in without fearing that the cord is going to come out.

looking for DIY if possible. duct tape or something would work but something a little more permanent would be nice. i might have to design something. was just wondering if anyone else ever has.

i know they make a thing to do it, but i dont know if its sold in stores.

unless he's like triple jointed I don't think there's a way to deliberately do that...

Actually, I many time wrap it around the monitor to keep it from loosening or pulling out as I shuffle around. When I do have ti plugged in for long periods, I take the battery out. It's that constant "recharging" mode that wears batteries out.

maybe i didnt see the thumb very well. i was multitasking. but if it was bent that far back surely it was broken and i didn't hear anything about that.

i'm gonna build a small lock of some kind. this computer is on all day and the batteries wear out so quickly as a result.

I actually very rarely have my battery in, as, while my laptop moves around the house and outside, I am always by a plugin...every now and then I'll use it, just to drain it, then recharge it and put it away again...

Keeping it out all together will make it last longer as it's not constantly being recharged.

I didn't know you could do that.

My MacBook cord is magnetic. Keeps it in there all snug and everything.

i heard the magnet's purpose was to separate the cord if you trip over it. my goal is for the cord to stay in *no matter what*

You could fasten a 'retaining' point on be bottom of the laptop, to which you fasten a strap of some sort. Then, the other end of the strap fastens to the plugin cord, so any force of pulling will be applied to the fastening point, not the plugin connection.

hope that made sense.

Sorry, back on topic,

. . . lions almost had a start there for awhile . . . but oh, do they like to make mistakes.

Oh yeah, you're right. It's pretty slick...I haven't tripped over my cord even once.

Back on topic:

Who do you like in the Tennessee-Indy game tonight? They're playing it up like it's this great match-up, but I think that the Titans are going to demolish the Colts.

30-7, Titans win.

Steelers:

1. Ben, get rid of the football....
2. O-line, COME ON!!!! Protect the QB.
3. er....the Tight End is OPEN!
4. Ben, throw it to the guys in the Black and Gold.

I was a bit upset yesterday by the mistakes. I know they can do much better, but there seems to be some lack of determination going on there. Unless the crowd is really behind them, they seem to be on cruise mode.
Colon's holding that negated the TD really just caused some dispondency.
They really could have taken the Giants. The D stuffed the Giants' run in the first half.

i'd like to see indy beat the titans, i guess. i can't see it happening, but then again i haven't seen the titans play this year. i know their record but have no sense of how they got there.

re: steelers...passing to miller is one of the safest things you can do. but they seemed to be covering him pretty well yesterday if i remember right. obviously the o-line was messed up again but im not sure what has been changing in terms of personnel week in and week out. i dont know how to monitor that, really. out of the four interceptions, i think two were directly ben's fault. one was just a deflection. and the final one is self explanatory. it was still bad.

is it true they only went no huddle for one brief spell? i didn't feel a lack of determination--it just seemed like problems to me, and part of it may have been playing safe and avoiding no huddle again.

just heard something i've been waiting to hear for many years. the f-word captured by one of the dish mics during a football game. he shouted it. it just happened, clear as day.

I think I've only heard it once myself. Can't remember the game it happened at though.

Tennessee is a group of tough S.O.B.s I tell ya. They're young, big, strong, and that rookie RB of theirs is fast. Then there's Lendale White, that big, bruising downhill runner (that somehow outran the entire Chiefs defense last week for an 80-yard score).

The Chiefs actually put up a good fight against the FavreJets. The officiating was clearly biased towards the home team though. Gonzalez was called for an offensive pass interference like he always is. he gets totally raped by defensive backs and he's the one getting called for pass interference. Pisses me off big time.

Then there was the game-winning TD from Favre to Coles where Coles clearly committed offensive pass interference but wasn't called on it.

Then there was the Chiefs last play of the game where the receiver was CLEARLY interfered with but the Jets' DB wasn't called for it. The officiating baically lost us the game. I was beyond mad. We were within 1 minute of our 2nd win of the year and the goddamn refs took it from us. Fookers.

Is it just me, or has this been the worst officiated season in recent memory? I've seen more bunk calls and bias games than I remember seeing ever...and I am actually watching less football...

It really has been. Other than the high-profile botched call that cost San Diego a win against Denver, there have been dozens of both borderline and egregious mistakes.

I have to give the refs credit. The game moves very fast and they have to make split-second decisions. I see a lot of tough calls that the refs get right (like they should...its what they get paid to do).

But I agree. this season there have been so many head-scratching calls by the refs, it makes me wonder if they're watching the same game as the rest of us.

On a related note, did you see that college game where the ref actually threw a block and tackled the quarterback? Let's see if I can dig it up on YouTube...

Yeah, here ya go. Terrible video quality but you can clearly see he threw one hell of a block (the ref was a former linebacker back in the late 1960s):

Tad,

I thought you had me in FF this week, but my boys came through big on Monday night!

Yeah...the officiating really sucks. Fortunately, it's usually been in favor of my team.

I thought that the ref tackling the guy was a beer commercial... :-)

Ya, I'm worried about me this week. I can't find any decent players to bring my projected score up. I'm hoping Eli and my kicker and D come through for me with a surprise again this week.
