Google is entering the web browser market. Seems OK so far, some weirdities, but not bad.

This is a major pain in a corporate environment that uses an ISA server.

WE told ya not to buy a Mac now didn't we.:-)

Anyway, I'm gonna install it tonight or tomorrow and give it a go on the surfbox.

Especially after talking to dB tonight about what Microslop is planning to release with the next version of Internet Exploder.

But I still like Firefox and it works great for me.

I installed it gave it a try and uninstalled it. I saw nothing compelling to use it, it wasn't any faster than any other browser I've used/tried and looks crappy to boot. :)

I still prefer IE, nothing in GC or FF has changed that.

IE8, in it's current version, uses at least 350 MB of RAM just to run, man, it's getting worse and worse.

I have found Chrome to be FAR FAR faster on JavaScript heavy sites, actually amazingly faster. Some of the usability changes I like, more stuff in tabs, not popups like FireFox. I like their use of tabs over the others, a tabbed interface, not just a tabbed window. I see the simple design as one that in the future will be easily skinable...

I dig it, I am going to use it this week and then judge it.

I would never use IE again after using Firefox. It is so much more capable of a browser the IE.

It stab handling is much better then IE and there are very few things I can complain about in Firefox. IE, now that is another story altogether.

I'll be trying Chrome out this weekend.

Will it run as smooth as Firefox on this old surfing beast of PC? If so then I'll be happy.

Now having changed from IE to FF after starting on this very forum I have always been impressed with FF but as a matter of interest I have just downloaded Chrome this morning and It seems to be faster than firefox, however as paul said will run as smoothly - only time will tell.

I personally like the simplicity of the browser (helps coz I is simple like that)

I just went back to FF today. Chrome is nice, but I missed all my plugins for FF to keep me informed of different things...much of which, oddly, is checking my Google things, which I had hoped would be integrated into Chrome, but no luck...

Chrome is impressive, but their TOS kinda bothers me and their feature set is lacking, I am guessingplugins and such will be part of it eventually, once a final release is made...then it's time for peeps to build them.

Yep, I'll still try it but will wait for the adder's and such before I commit to it.

There are always privacy advocates coming out of the woodwork when any large company releases anything. The big problem with this was their cookie-cutter terms of service statement, it wasn't read thru and edited to suit well before release and was just chunks of their other TOS's and was kinda scary sounding, but they did totally rewrite a section of it.

At this point, after dealing with Google for many years, and after being part of an invite-only group of product users for a while, I do believe that Google is not yet being evil at all, regardless of what the haters say.

That being said, until Chrome can support all the plugins that FireFox currently does, I'll stick with FireFox. Regardless of my personal opinions about Google as a company, the browser, while a decent first effort, is substandard by 2008 browser requirements...hell, it's maybe a 2003 browser...

Double interesting. A little something to think about on both the good and the bad side of things.

In that article is a link to a cartoon, describing big G's methodology and technical directions.

Pretty interesting propaganda, if nothing else =).

Well dB and I touched on the one thing briefly on the phone about having private stuff just floating out there on some unknown server. I'm not sure I want anything like that.

My other beef would be how do you run all your other hardware from a browser based or internet based OS?? Not likely that will happen anytime that I'm alive.

The thing I will say, forty, is that while I don't believe Google is actively TRYING to snub privacy with Chrome, there may develop some beta type privacy/security issues and whatnot, with this browser their data mining and knowledge of users is getting insane.
