...an Autotuned Liona Boyd. Turns out she stumbled upon my blog and was enquiring about Autotune and other pitch correction options. She is well known for her playing but this will be the first time she will be singing live (at age of 59). Anyways, I would never want to hear her vocal Autotuned. Anyhow, I hope I gave her good advice.

Liona Boyd has been a huge inspiration on me. Our song "I Know She Understands" is very much in her style.

For those that have not heard of her, here is a YouTube video. Haha, Super Dave is pretty cool too!

Ah, you say that now. But you never know. She may open her mouth, and the rest of the world may go, "Oh dear GOD!"

Nah, just kidding. I'm sure she will be great.

Autotune (for the sake of autotune) is the work of the devil. It's eee-vil I tell you.

I don't really care about the "T-Pain" (or whoever he is) crowd that want to make their recordings sound like Cher... Heck, back in the 90's, I used a tunable harmonizer to save a recording or two myself (the vocalist was in from NY - Had him for two days - He had a cold... Not a pretty situation).

But this current overuse/abuse of autotune just grinds on my nerves...

I think it has it's place. Mostly as an effect in pop and hip hop but Liona Boyd?? No. Her performances are way to intimate to have the robotic sound of Autotune.

I'll take it up for both sides here. Autotune does have its place, when used properly and moderately for actually fixing a sour note or two. I have to also agree with Massive on the fact it is now being overused to an extreme by some genre's and it is creeping into a few I never thought I would here using it as an effect like that.

My sound twisting side really does like the effect, but it also has taken away from an even more over used effect at one time. The vocoder! These days many newbies mistake the original vocoder sound for an over tweaked autotuner and can't even tell the difference from one to the other.

While I will say there are some artist's that used the effect well placed, there are now too many doing it. Is it out of desire to use it or do they really have to cover it up that much.

OK, end of rant.

Oh ya, good call on that as well BH. Not saying she might not need to use it a bit, but you never know. My guess is if she sings like she plays then it will all be good. And yes, I'm very familiar with her and have seen her a few times.

I think she is just a bit nervous. She may feel her singing has to be as good or better than her playing. That is pretty tough to live up to.

I would love to see her do a duet with Shari Ulrich.

People can be quite forgiving. She has given the world so much that even if her voice wouldn't be perfect it will still be enjoyed because she is Liona Boyd!

That is exactly what I was thinking and why I wouldn't do anything to mess with her voice.
