Say, aren't there a couple of HRC-ers down in Austin? Isn't that where the South By Southwest fest was held? Man eMusic has been giving away free mixtapes of SXSW artists and I've found about a dozen new bands to investigate from these compilations.

Did anybody here actually attend?

In 1997 I toured with a band down to SXSW. Met my wife on that tour. We went down with a band called the Experiment. We worked out a deal that if we supplied the PA, we would get on the compilation, and not pay a fee.

We had a great time. Played Maggie Mays. The only thing that sucked, was being stuck there for hours for the truck to be able to get there to pick up the gear. Oh, and talking to PJ Harvey. What a weirdo. Still, if you ever get the chance to go. Do it! One of the best festivals I've ever done.

Yeah SXSW is held in Austin. To the best of my knowledge I'm the only resident texan here, but I'm in austin all the time.

I've been at sxsw since I was into music. Last year I saw iggy and the stooges, meat puppets, and a whole metric ton of other bands I can't remember. It's a blast man.

Don't let them get ya to pay for it though. All the best shows are free if ya know how to get into em ;)

Yep, been there as well but not recently. Also played there twice in my younger days. And ya, loads of fun indeed.

Many bands from here have been invited to play there for a few years now.

I'll live in San Antonio in 2 weeks. :)

Wish I could have made it to some SXSW shows.

Will you really? We should hang out and record something sometime then, as I'm constantly in the hill country.

Awesome man! I'm game! I'm moving there to start a band with a guy I met on *Myspace*... Yeah, I know... Sounds like WTF!? But, it's going to be awesome...

Anyway, how far do you live from the Sea World region of it?

I officially live in south houston, but I spend a lot of time on the bus between here, austin, and kerville.

Awesome Loki. I'll def. let you know when I get there.

Haha. I know. But, I've known the guy for about a year now and aren't just MySpace pen pals. There's just not a music scene here in OKC, OK to accommodate for the style of music I play. That, and no musicians that can take the off-the-wall style that I play. I've found the drummer and bassist and have been trading stuff back and forth over the net for months now.

But, thanks for the goodluck. It's going to be an interesting experience. :)

Ah, so you're in OKC. Have you tried looking around Norman? I'm surprised that the music scene in a college town would be so stale. But it is Oklahoma, not exactly the cultural epicenter of the country. I grew up in Bartlesville, so I can sympathise. But hell OKC has 100x the drawing power of my hometown :)

I've got a brother, sister-in-law and a couple of neices that live in OKC/Norman. I make my way down there once a year or so.

Yeah, I was in a band based out of Norman for a bit but it didn't work out. :( And no offense AT ALL to you family but every person that I have talked to from there were either always stoned out of their gourd or were so Christian that they weren't even aloud to dance. :(

Bartlesville as a pretty decent scene from what I've been told. Not first hand knowledge though.

Hahaha, yeah that's what you get when you cross a 30,000 student state university and the bible belt :D
