kinda self explanatory, can i use subs paired together in parallel, like 2 pv118, i can afford more power for them if i can run them in parallel. all i could really find on the subject was subs paired with the tops

Mar 16, 2008 08:20 am yeah... it's - left, right, and sub... are they self powered? and do you have a crossover?
Mar 16, 2008 04:56 pm unpowered and im using a low-pass filter on my mono out on my mixer to a bridged amp to the two subs in parallel so theyd only be getting the low frequencies, I didnt know if there is something that i dont know that would cause this not to work as i think it should

Mar 16, 2008 05:36 pm I was thinking in series anyway... alcohol isn't involved yet... 15 minutes then I'll be completely useless... :)
it should work... the only thing that concerned me when I had the wrong idea about what you were doing is having a mis-balanced power amp... ie Left goes to a main.. and right goes to a main and both subs... helped take over from an idiot that did that once... took us until after the concert to figure out why everything wasn't working anymore... 300W on the left channel and 2000W on the right... fun stuff...
Mar 16, 2008 05:48 pm lol nice, i bet everyone appreciated that, thnx for the help.
Mar 16, 2008 10:21 pm Running them in parallel is fine. This reduces the ohm load, and allows the current to increase. Just be careful not to over power the sub's. In bridge mode,(As I'm sure your aware of) you are having the +15 and -15 rails run together. With that much power you can over excursion you 18's.
I would suggest a crossover. An LPF is fine, but it exerts no control over the sub. You can not change the shape of the slope, change the delay, or even have EQ. (unless you insert a 31 band EQ on the mono out. Which increases the noise floor.) Having a crossover will give you that control. Depending on the model that you buy.
DBX Drive Rack, Ashly 4.24c, are two that I would suggest taking a look at. Both of these would do all of the functions that are needed.
Mar 17, 2008 01:11 am yea i definately want that dbx drive rack, i guess i needed to see if i could maybe pull off a little show and show off the speakers a little =), before i got the crossover

Mar 17, 2008 07:53 am I run those same Subs PV118's. I also use the Driverack PA. It is an awesome little device, but it has quite a bit of a learning curve to it, if you're expecting to just plug everything in and play, your in for a treat, especially if you decide to BiAmp or Tri-Amp, of course depending on your setup. Regardless, once you have the Driverack setup, man it is gorgeous. One suggestion with those subs is because they are not very powerful, put them side by side right next to each other and you will get an extra boost of I think around +3db giving you +6db total extra.
