I've got a couple of rifles. Nothing special just a 22 and a 303 British Enfield. I'll snap off a couple of pictures when I get a moment.

At home, since the kids are still young, we just have a .380 Taurus semi-auto pistol for home protection.

In my dad's gun safe at his place, waiting for the kids to get older I have a .22 rifle, 20 gauge shotgun and an 8mm Mauser bolt action military issue that are mine. My dad has a 357 mag, 12 gauge double barrel, and some other random stuff. An old coach gun that's pretty cool, he collect, has tons of cool stuff.

Hey, I had (have) one of those 380 bersa too. Unfortunately, it didn't fair too well through the house fire.

Right dandy little gun. I've yet to replace it, though.

We also have a 22 varmit rifle with a red-dot scope.

A few years ago I tried out in a NRA pistol league at the gun club. Wow, was that a trip. Single hand, shooting with different timings. I did quite well.

Unfortunately, pricing a shooting pistol will set you back, so i bowed out for now. Probably when the kids are out of the house, i'll get into it again.

Man, I am never going to America!

My mate and I think our air rifle is pretty sweet... It dominates rabbits and magpies, from 40 meters! Peow peow.

I used to have a .45 Remington 1911. It was fun to take out in the desert for target shooting. I would go up to the desert north of town with my friends. We would take tubs of water, old appliances, etc. and have a great time blowing the **** out of them. But that's all the guns were good for. I sold the 1911. Too much gun for no good reason.

I don't feel threatened.

Pjk,

Your right about the Bersa in my books. I gave it to my wife for her B-day. But I gotta admit I like shootin it. It just handles real nice and as you say accurate as all get out for such a little ****. The nine fits my hand better. I also put a laser on it for giggles. It's a hoot. My grandson is like Dead Eye Dick with the thing. He was dancin cans at 30 yards first time out.

I generally don't discuss my stockpile in case the Dems get elected :)

anycase... I've really been thinking about a large caliber air rife for hunting rabbits...

My favorite was actually my dads .22 rifle... I spent hours behind it going after woodchucks while bailing hay as a kid...

Yah Zek, you've got a point. Hillary and her old man get back in office and we'll have both of them craming things down peoples throats.

Nice, one dB.

I'm up next year and will probly get Tuna in now that he is 18.

My collection is slimmed down since I turned bow hunter years ago. But I keep a Glock for the house and guitars. I have a couple of Japanese rifles from a collection a neighbor was getting rid of. And a couple high powered rifles I won't name cause I don't wanna get arrested either. They are stored off the premises though as I can't trust the kids and don't have a secure locker here for them. Loads of fun.

We used to use them out west dong the prairie dog thing. Long distance shots were always a ball.

Gah.

As I've always maintained; I fully support your right to carry a muzzle loading, single shot, flintlock musket.

Ah, that's where the rest of your "well armed militia" comes into play....

I always figured the first round was the warning, to let people know that I really do know how to pull the trigger, that it's really loaded, and I will certainly pull the trigger again, if I need to.

That'd be tough, telling some no-good-nick to wait whilst I reloaded my black powder rifle. =).

A well armed militia is why we're not still paying taxes to the Queen. Not that I have anything against the Queen, but just saying, our militia is what made this country stand up for itself, and take charge of a bad situation.

Opinions may vary on the value of the 2nd amendment, but the facts are there. Without our militia, we would still be serving under the British empire.

I think F-22s qualify as "well armed."

I'll never find the post I'm sure...but on another board it was well said along the lines of:

Quote:
Ever wonder why mobs are always throwing rocks when they riot against the government in third world countries? It's because the repressive dictators don't allow them to have guns anymore.

Maintaining personal firearms not only secures your rights from the government but it saves the government a ****-load of money and time in training a military.

Those of us who went to Basic Training would probably remember at least a couple guys who didn't know how to brush their teeth but knew how to operate any personal weapon put in their hand... Sure you can learn a number of useful things from videogames, like small unit tactics... but marksmanship is a skill that is honed through experience...

I've been shooting for most of my life and I remember my first M16 qualification at Fort Sill... my weapon repeatedly jammed so I dumped the magazines out into the sand and chambered each round by hand... I missed Expert by 1... I looked up to the Westpointer who was the 'range safety' and he stooped over my foxhole and shouted 'Holy ****!' - probably because someone who didn't already have years of long range 'open site' experience would not be able to manually load a weapon and acquire a target fast enough to keep up with the pop up targets.

Also....

Though I'm from Michigan, I'm not too keen on the militia post cold war... I grew up in a militia area and I new some of the members. They aren't the 'wolverines' :)... But just for the 'army' we have:

Active Duty
Active Reserve
State National Guard
Retired Reserve
State Military Reserve
Inactive Ready Reserve
Selective Service (aka draft list)

plus a large amount of skilled veterans not associated with an organization.

An organized civilian militia isn't really necessary unless an overwhelming invasion is 'possible' like with the cold war. If China somehow manages to figure out a way to ship their army over here then I'd reconsider the usefulness of the 'Civil Defense' forces.

As far as 'flintlocks' ...well the founding fathers weren't really even expecting police either...

...and besides it violates international law to shoot people with most muzzle loaders...as most (as far as I'm aware) are larger than 50 cal... even the bayonets are illegal to use... nasty little things too...

In Detroit it's good to be prepared even as a gigging band.

I disagree. I believe the founding fathers knew very well what they were doing: 1) protect themselves from an invasion, 2) empower themselves so they wouldn't be controlled by some over-powered central government (like the throne, at the time).

They knew that a self supported populace would have no problem keeping the central government small, like they intended. Removing the self-support, removes the populace's ability to say "NO".

baddabing, baddaboom, from there, enter a totalitarian regime.

An unarmed population is a subservient population that is easy to control by fear and might.

Of course the problem with that smart *** comment is that some people consider EVERYTHING a "right" when in fact most are "privledges"...and the few that are "rights" come with "responsiblities" which is a completely foreign concept to most people these days...

A good example currently are the people bitching that they deserve the right to privacy....in public...WTF? That being brought about by the camera monitors in city streets and whatnot...and all the ensuing controversy.
