I would like to buy a guitar effects processor..There is so many different kinds and model it is hard to decide on the right model.I would like something with the whammy pedal and something like the Digitech models..Does anybody have any that they really love and would never give up .It like finding the right guitar..it took me 20 years of buying and selling and finally found the guitar that is a keeper..DeArmond Starfire " Special" what i great guitar if you like hollowbodys..Getting back to the Effects processors////most of them have many effects, but i think some of the older ones are not digital.I have a zoom 505 and it has 24 effects and doesnt really sound too bad...Guess i am looking for something bigger and better....

Here's my take on guitar FXs...

Multi-FX pedals are crap!

There, I said it, I don't feel proud about that statement, but it is the way I feel about them. The various effects are usually pale comparison to individual effect processors and the build quality of such units usually leaves A LOT to be desired.

The next logical progression away from a Multi-FX unit is a pedal board. Our guitarist used to have about 7 Boss FX pedals, delay, flanger, phaser, tremelo, noise supression, distortion (Marshall Jackhammer's RULE! - but now he has a rather large Marshall JCM Lead Series amp, and so the Jackhammer is now my toy :), etc, etc. This setup was overcomplicated and meant he often had to turn 3 or 4 pedals on and off whilst progressing through a change! Not to mention the fact that all these pedals take up a lot of space and require those annoying little 9V "Wall Wart" Powersupplys - after a few months he needed a new solution...

Okay, this brings me to my reccomendation - it sounds a bit crazy at first, but it is by FAR the best solution for Multi Guitar FX on stage and in the Studio:

Al's (our Guitarist) setup now contains:

1 x Line 6 Mod Pro Rack Unit
1 x Line 6 Echo Pro Rack Unit
1 x Midi Footswitch
1 x Chromatic Tuner Pedal

The Line 6 Rack effects are some of the most amazing effects I have ever heard, there are plenty of paramaters to tweak and over 99 writable patches on them - you can create the crazyest sounds imaginable with those two units. They are both housed inside a 4u high "soft rack case" which itself weighs practically nothing. Changing patches is a breeze, all you have to do is slam down the Midi Footswitch and select the program you want.

Check out www.line6.com/products.as...em=154&tp=0 for a bit more info on them.

I agree with jues and take it a step farther to say pedal as a whole are generally crap. Get a rackmount unit controlled by a pedal board, like the Line 6 POD, one of those groovy ART units or something like that. Most of those cheesy little pedals are so noisy it drives me up a wall...

I will also agree that I am not that proud of that statement because I hate generalizing, or dumping all things into a box and labelling them the same, because there are always exceptions...

Of all my processor's, I would say my 2 Digitech TSR-12's and my Alesis Quadraverb II are my most used. They are all fully midi controlled.

Well......I'm totally outnumbered here. ;) heh. but here goes.
I have found the POD Pro rack to be the best All around unit as far as multiFX....the best distortion models I've heard from a digital unit, bar none. But I must say......TC makes one of the best MultiFX processors I've ever heard(aside from the distortions).
Point is......theres a million+1 ways to go on FX but it really comes right down to personal preferance. Not everyone likes tube over solid state if you catch my drift.

I have the POD as well (tho not the rack) with a footboard controller, and I agree the distortion and amp simulators are awesome...as well as some of the other effects, I would always recommend a POD.

I've used a lot of the amp mods and and have found them all decent but lacking at the same time ( even the POD ...sigh) , I'd say go out you you local music store ask to hook into any of the amp mods ( J-station, POD, V-amp ect) and use a a floor board controler ( Line 6 has one that you can get with the POD for a little extra $$) but most of the other prossesor or Mods can be used with a midi controller and behriger make a decent one for aorund 100$.
