bounce tracks

Does anyone on here bounce tracks in order to get a better, more punch compressed piece?
I find it a lot easier to group the snare, Bass and cymbals and then compress it.

Since moving into the digital field I have rarely bounced tracks at all...bouncing seems to be more common in analog situation where one has run out of tracks on the recorder...very common with the 4 and 8 track portastudio type units.

i think you mean applying effects to premixed groups of tracks, as opposed to just bouncing in general? not sure what is meant, murphy,.

Yeah, to combine the separate drum tracks into one and then add effects instead of individually doing the snare, bass etc...

rather than bouncing, if you are in the digital world, you should look into grouping. Then adding the effects to the group like Jamie referred to.

Then the tracks stay seperate so you can still mix via level controls but still effect them in one group and control the volume of the group in the mix.

Does that make sense? I use grouping all the time, but rarely bounce...actually, never bounce.

When I group in Cool edit 2 it puts it into one track.

Well, now that's a bit of an overstatement, but thanks. :-)

Can you do that in Sonar, or is it the same thing as using an aux bus or what?

Nah, it's not working... I take it all back!!

It's grouping them but when I double click the wav to edit, it's only adding effect to one of them.

go ahead and bounce them down and effect the new track. just make sure you keep the originals in case you want to go back.

Db, I don't think Cool Pro has Group processing options.

Murhpy, Just like on a large mixer most multitracker programs like Cubase, which I am familiar with will give you the option to send channels to a group or sub-mix. You can add effects to that sub-mix and effect all channels assigned to the sub-mix at once. You can probably duplicate this procedure in Cool Pro by mixing only the tracks you want to "bounce" into a mix down. Import that mix down back into cool pro and add effects per taste. Then in the end make a mix down of your mix downs. If that makes sense. It's the long way around and may create a little difficulty in matching mix downs as you can not audition the whole piece until the end of the process.

Didn't like cool edit pro but the second edition is much better.

You can add the same effect to each track by the plugin rack but I like to finalize the effect, less strain on the computer.

There is another way, I'm not sure if it will have the same results...
Mix a group of tracks down, then add effect, save preset and go back and apply to each track separately, remove group track.

Hmm......I'm not sure on the CoolEdit thing. But Sonar lets you use AUX busses and you assign each of Aux busses an effect then choose which tracks you want the effects on, and send those tracks (aux send 1-00000) to the effect that you want. =)

You can always add the effects one at a time to each wav file. CoolEdit does have the Repeat Last Command function where it will do the exact same thing as you just did. It's right there under Edit. I'm not sure if this actually helps.
