Using Acid Pro 6.0 worth upgrading to Protools M-powered?

Hi so I have been using acid for about 2 years with a presonus firepod. It seems like it is not as sutible for home recording. I am in a 4 man punk/acousitic rock band. I was looking at getting m-powered and a project mix i/o for an upgrade. It will cost me about 1200 total. My question is this really worth the upgrade? Would that money be better spent on say a waves bundle? Or better equipment mics instruments. Mabye some ideas on other DAW's compared ect. Unfortunatly the protools demo does not allow you to try it out if you dont have m audio hardware plugged in. Any help would be greatly apreciated. Thanks!

A quick search through previous threads will quickly open your eyes to how people view PT around here.
It's not that it's a bad system, but there are so many better ways to spend your money.

Many of us work on a budget, so we make do/learn on less expensive DAWs and other outboard gear. Listen around, there's some great stuff here. Very few tracks you'll hear were recorded on PT - or even on amazingly expensive "rigs".

There should be a small siren going off in your subconscious about this fact alone. Think of the hardware you'll need with the "proper" version....

So what would some other good DAW's be or do you think that acid is good enough.

You say your current set up is not suitable for home recording. My question for you is why you have come to that conclusion? Is it Acid or the firepod that you don't think is pulling the weight, or both? What would you like to be able to do, that you are not capable of doing currently? I think these are more important questions to start with.

The reason I say that is because after looking through many forums I see that most people are using protools sonar and cubase to do recording and they are using Acid for remixing. No I don't know exactly what I am looking for since I have only used acid and that is why I am posting in hopes to get advice from people who have used the other programs if it is worth the cash to upgrade.

There are people on here that swear by Acid (don't know what version) and say you can do most everything in Acid that you can do in Cubase, Sonar, PT, etc. I haven't used Acid since probably 2.x so I'm not as sure. But is there anything that you want to do that you can't do with Acid. Until that answer is yes, I personally wouldn't bother with getting a new program.

Also, I believe there are trial versions to some of the popular programs out there. It might be worth investigating to see if you can try them out and then if you like them.

From what I read/hear M-Powered would not be an upgrade at all...

I use Acid and there is no reason you can't do anything you want with it. Upgrading (as DB says M-powered is not an upgrade) just brings a whole new set of learning headaches.

Acid is popular with remixers because it's good at that and other packages are less so. That does not mean it can't do well in a home/simple environment such as yours.

I'm not saying Acid is the best, I'm saying you don't need to spend $1200 to do what you want. The tool you know can be priceless compared to the pain of something new.

If you do want to upgrade then I believe we should all keep away from Pro-Tools.
