I have looked all over the place for a variety pack of different sizes and brands of picks (so I can try 'em all) but I can't find one anywhere. If there's such a thing anybody know where I can buy it?

Dec 08, 2007 08:40 pm You know I have not seen any either now that you mention it. Maybe try hitting the Herco, Dunlop and other pick makers sites and see if they have anything.

Dec 08, 2007 08:48 pm Honestly, for the best deal you should go to a local music shop that sells picks from a bucket- they're like 5 cents a piece and you can get every thickness, texture and shape anyone offers for a fewbucks, at least this is how it's been in all the cities I've ever lived in. If not, I've never really seen a comprehensive package of picks. Maybe try a small time shop and see if they deal in selling single picks?

Dec 08, 2007 09:24 pm Nice Keith. I never thought of that, but you are right. Most of the music stores I have been in sell picks like that. My buddies Music Go Round store has a glut of different types and styles. And I keep a variety here for those who like different pick's. I as well use a few different types for different playing styles.
Dec 09, 2007 04:32 am i've never heard of a "pick bucket" but i'm definitely gonna bring it up to the parents for their store...
correct me if i'm wrong, but as long as you stick to the brand, you can opt for various thickness and still get the same price....why not just buy "one of everything" or something like that....
grab 3 fender picks for a dollar (thin, med, and heavy) and do the same for donlop and what not.
it's not like you're "investing" a heck of alot....and from what i've found, there is no "one" magic pick...different plectrum yield different sounds (espically on acoustics!)....so it's good to have a variety around.
i know late at night, when i'm jamming with a bud with unplugged electrics, it's better to have thicker picks, but for background strumming tracks, nothing beats a thin pick on an acoustic.

Dec 09, 2007 07:43 am james hetfield (metallica) threw a bunch in a crowd at a concert i was at, i got one and have since, lost it aswell.
i feel your pain
Dec 09, 2007 07:46 am I still got my dunlop one, actually, it's a great pick...I had a Tesla pick once, and Nugent and a few other bands, lost all of them

Dec 09, 2007 08:03 am yeah they weren't bad picks... I just can't hold on to a pick to save my life. I had two that I held on to for a couple months, but they dissapeared... too many musician friends, and too many thief friends.

Dec 09, 2007 12:50 pm Well thanks for the tips. I'll look around for a "pick bucket" and for smaller variety packs of single brands.

Dec 09, 2007 03:19 pm I still have my Spinal Tap photo picks. As well as a few others from odd places. A stone pick from god knows were that is hard to get used to and some stainless steel thing that just plain sucks.
