and if its better to do it with ouboard gear with preamps /compressors such as avalon and focusrite or from plugins of nuendo..and if it is the second..witch plugins are great for that?

ok man, again i don't mean to offend, but you said you've got "studio experience"...what exactly do you mean by that? as in you were in a band recording at a studio? or were you mixing in a 'real' studio?

i don't mean to be harsh, but compression is a VERY fundamental component to mixing....and if you don't understand it, (at least conceptually) you really don't need to open a 'pro' studio to the public yet.

that would be like me saying "i understand how sails catch the wind" and at the same time, i can say i KNOW how to sail, therefore if i buy an expensive top of the line sail boat, i can sail it...but, i have NO CLUE how to sail a real boat. but since i have a GOOD boat it should be easy....YEAH RIGHT!

man, i don't mean to discourage, but judging by the questions you've been asking, i'm not all that sure you should be trying to make money off a recording studio just yet......the reason being, alot of musicians are thinking the same things and are recording themselves sufficiently enough that they have no use for a "mid-sized" studio (as i think is what you are trying to establish).

seriously, i'm not trying to put you down or discourage you from your aspirations, but i feel like you need a BIG reality check....this is NOT "Field of Dreams" where the concept is "if you build it, they will come" because, believe me, THEY WON'T! until you have firmly established a good reputation in your area.

and THAT is the key to running a successful recording studio...it's all about reputation for delivering results that exceed the expectations. and not to pat myself on the back, but i did just that, and had a client buy the whole darn studio out from under me, simply because i made it 'look' easy.

but you gotta learn digital audio before you can do that....if you build it, they will come and realize you can't deliver "proper" results, and they WILL tell their friends and your business WILL fall....

i see it happen monthly here in "music city USA" (Nashville, Tennessee)....and it breaks my heart.

SLOW DOWN!

what more can i say?

I have had the same thought for a while, I guess my hope is that you are starting a "pro studio" (whatever that is) and you are owning it, not the primary engineer.

You can have all the top notch gear, spend obscene amounts of money, but, without the knowledge it will fail, and the only way to get the knowledge is to spend some time doing it.

You are asking some pretty basic conceptual question for a guy that wants to charge money for engineering, what sounds like, very soon.

You need to sit back, take the time, record a few bands for free to learn the trade and earn your stripes before charging anyone anything.

No Offense, But Read Over What You Type As Your Replies Make Little To No Sense...

You Can Use Outboard Gear, But Theres Very Similar Plugins Which Accomplish The Same..

The Way I Learned Was By Recording My Own Track.. And I Saved The Session Before Editing It In Anyway.. Then I Just Kept Adding Different Effects, Tweakin The EQ More/Less, And Different Plugins.. And Once U Hear What U Like, U Perfect It..

Best Expirence Is To Just Fool Around With Your Program And Gear/Plugins...

Real Wun, you have missed much of the conversation we have had with this poster over the last few days...compression is one of those effects that sometimes must be used before going to the interface, and that is why he is mentioning using hardware for it.

Also Real Wun, he's from Greece, so his english is a little shaky and hard to understand sometimes. He means well though.

This page helped me a bit.

www.orange-fields.com/widepages/wideasleeprec.html

Proper playing and recording at proper levels is definitely important I've learned. If the playings crap and the recording crap, there's little one can do really.

Thanks for the link db. Very helpful.

No problems with the english really Capellino, it is a little rough but I do get your meaning.

I visited a friend in Greece once back in 2000, we were out drinking and he told us "I've got to go, I have to eat the cats". Well my wife was horrified until she learned that he meant to "feed" them :) It was a good laugh.

I live in China. That's a reality in some places. I ordered chicken from a vender once; got home and about half way through, I noticed it definitely wasn't chicken.

There's nothing like waking up in the morning and seeing your nieghbour drying rats in the sun like jerky.

Anyway, A little off topic.
