Learn to use what you have first...you'll know what you need next when a limitation presents itself in technicolor. Let your needs dictate, not you urge to spend...save, damnit, save!
Sep 25, 2007 02:25 pm Whether you'll be happy surely has a lot more to do with the songs than the gear :)

Sep 25, 2007 04:10 pm Ditto Beer Hunter,(nice av BH) also, good outboard compressor might come in handy.
Sep 26, 2007 03:55 am my ideas (while agreeing with the above posts) would be outboard pre's, mics, and compressors....that's one catagory.
another is room treatment....that'll never hurt, but since you're building a new room, it's kinda hard to treat a non-existent room just yet...so that can wait.
my other thought was mastering software....something like Wavelab or Peak to take your mixes to the next level...
my last idea (and least important) is new monitors....M1's arn't the greatest and i'm sure you've gotten by on them....but if you A/B them with other models, you'll be surprised on the differences you'll hear.
