not sure if ive got the right forum again but just thought i'd ask in here, hope everyone is good...

Anyone tried using acid pro 4.0 with m audio 1010lt soundcard? no matter what i do i cannot get the damn thing to record with my new condensor setup, and it only comes out of one speaker but in the preferences there are no clear ways to change the input channel to 1/2 rather than just 1

any ideas?

is it worth upgrading to acid pro 6.0? or is it worth just forgetting acid pro and learning a new program? if so what? i dont like ableton live tbh although thats the second program i've kind of started to get the hang of...audition? cool edit?...cubase?

thanks

I use Acid Pro 6. the choice of 1/2 or 1 is not in the preferences. When you set the track to record there is an icon on the track, near where the red record button is. Click that to choose inputs.

However only recording 1 and not 1/2 should still be centered unless you panned the track.

I love Acid Pro and 6.0 is a major step up from older versions. I used 1,2 & 3 but not for audio, then I jumped to 6.0 for audio recording. IMHO if you've been using ACID for a while then you will find it most easy to switch to 6.0 and you can get back to recording music and stop messing with gear :)

I assume your condenser is receiving power ???

yeah my condensor is picked up fine whilst using ableton, which is why ive been using it lately but im really not a fan..

everytime i went to record with acid 4.0 it only records to left hand side and also when it had finished recording no sound wqould be recorded...i imagine that it is probably a setting i have messed around with, but nevertheless i have now reinstalled windows so i am just putting on my old software, maybe ill upgrade to 6.0 and test it out..

I want to learn something new also, something thats more popular maybe cubase or even protools but i think thats a bit out of my league at the moment perhaps...

what would be a good bit of software to learn for recording vox and guitars/drums?

thanks buddy

Well I recommend Acid 6.0 :)

Acid 6 Pro does have a 30 day demo so I would suggest trying that first and making sure things do or don't work.

I am personally only interested in making music and not really interested in the gear at all. Acid works great so I don't have any urge to switch.

Pro Tools - perhaps to complex and you need hardware to use with it

Sonar - gets great reviews

Cubase - solid but somehow feels a bit behind the times to me.

Sonar is interesting, cubase, there are so many versions to choose from i have no idea which one to go for :(... pro tools, quite a majority of my setup is m audio so i can get away with mpowered pro tools but that is a lot of money to shed out...im gonna try acid and see how i get on, its good because the acid pro 4.0 i was a bit of a whizz at...i didnt like the sony acid 5.0 and actually went back to 4.0 but hopefully 6.0 will be better and ill be able to get on with that..

what version of cubase would be a good one to start with if i was to learn that? and also what about adobe audition/cool edit pro? to me these sound a bit, n00bish (not saying im much more than a n00b) but i'd prefer to learn to good stuff! :D lol

thanks for your help

There shouldn't be a reason to buy new software...I don't use Acid so I can't say what's wrong, but it sounds like a simple case of channel assignment like choosing to record mono source into a stereo track or something weird like that.

Throwing more money at it by buying more software seems like somewhat of a shotgun approach.

Acid 6 is a major upgrade, it offers multi channel recording and a bunch of other stuff not in 4. 6 made it into a real recording package, as said there are demo's of most of these to try.

Welllllllll, be fair tho, the new features only matter if somebody needs them...multichannel recording, for example, means nothing to me...

DB, you've never recorded guitar and vocals at the same time ??? Acid couldn't do that before 6.0

These comments were directed at an Acid user, the difference is huge between 4 and 6.

it sounds to me like acid is recording 1 and 2 as a stereo pair, which means channel 1 will be left....is there a way to set up your recording app to 'see' input one as a "mono" source?

Acid does record as a stereo pair but if you record Mono it's centered so if you record 1 on a track and 2 on a different track both will be centered until you pan them in Acid. I think he has the reverse problem, somehow he's only getting half of a stereo signal.

Not since quiting the band thing and just having fun writing and recording by myself, nope, it's been years since I have done more than a single take at the same time...

However, come to think of it, even with one instrument I have recorded 2 or 3 tracks with it with different mics or sources, so yeah, I can see your point there.
