I just saw a commercial for "2nd Wind" which is a pawn shop type place for exercise gear, plus new gear too. Owned by some annoying scammer looking dude named Dick Enrico...
I saw a commercial today with him doing the announcing and some visual spots, and he looks like a shyster, then shows all the "passionate staff willing to help you find the right gear" and in every shot it was a guy sales dude helping a young, skinny, attractive woman customer.
I guess they never have the fat people wanting to buy gear to get themselves into shape, huh?

Sep 19, 2007 07:28 am Wow, Talking Smack is getting like my personal resentment list. I guess this is good as I need to get rid of them. Yes, most commercials give me IBS. I'm watching History channels Gamma Ray Bursts last night and on comes some female babbling about a car that is just like her, luxurious on the inside and sporty on the outside. I'm thinkin, Ya just like you, gotta feed it constantly with extreamly expensive fuel and it polutes the environment. Massive rectal insertion of cranium.

Sep 19, 2007 08:31 am Ya, I'm a geek. I simply can't sit through regular entertainment. Last night was a good night for the God-Box per my taste. Underground cities built by the Hitites, the effects of sun spots, gama ray bursts, followed by rouge waves. Whoohoooo! A couple more nights like that and I may buy a God-Box made in this century!
Sep 19, 2007 09:09 am It's an ingrained automatic response at our house. Commercial = mute button. I just won't listen to them anymore. Billy Mays was the last straw.

Sep 19, 2007 09:45 am Ya gotta love it. Our PC's have pop-up blockers, and spam filters. Our God Boxes are automaticaly or manualy filtered against the evil marketers. Unless you are programmed into my home phone you will not be answered. Next will be a camera above the door.

Sep 19, 2007 11:23 am I've been watching that show 'Just for Laughs' on the box. Great fun, that show.
They have several skits where they put speakers in non-normal places and have different things coming out of them.
A good one was the speaker in the trash can, on the side of the street, then playing a car-screeching crash sound when someone walks by. Scares the willies out of some of them.
I agree Walt, we should be getting smart TVs shortly, that cancel out the commercials. I, too, use my DVR quite a lot. Often, we'll start a show, and pause it to get a drink, or whatever for about 10 minutes, then we can fst fwrd through the commercials.
There's a 30sec jump button, that jumps forward 30 seconds at a pop. Is great for skipping a commercial.
I watch a lot of the 'smart' TV as well. Science channel is very high on our list. But lately, they've been seeming to put more commercials than they used to. It's sick to have to sit through them.
Sep 19, 2007 12:33 pm gamma ray bursts is on the history channel? someone told me they were showing more science shows lately. that program was on the science channel a few years ago and pops up every now and then. its neato. martin rees is in it, right? the british astronomer royale with the super long nose?

Sep 20, 2007 06:10 pm YA dB, that guy is a shyster for sure. I did however get a swingin deal on that Parabody 2 or 3 years ago now, whatever it was. But I would not go there again. They try to hook you with their 90 dyas same as cash thing or some other credit scheme. They were really flabbergasted that I wanted to pay cash for something when I could easily qualify for 12 months with no interest.
SO you know why I don't watch the boob tube much anymore. Other then the mentioned Discovery channel's and such. And Speed channel of course, gotta keep up on the racin scene.
