yeppers!

start with the best format (samplerate/bit depth) you may have to "downsample" to 44.1khz, or reduce your bit depth to 16 bits....that's "cd quality"

that's all fine and dandy if you're makin' a cd, but what if you wanna make an mp3 to put up on myspace or whatever....you must further reduce the quality...

so the point is, you gotta know what your end format goal is...then get the best possible version of it.

"red book" cd standard is a samplerate of 44.1khz and bit depth of 16.

Since WYD neglected to answer your question, yes, wav. 16 bit 44.1 samplerate.

Oui Doobie, I'm not sure we got the whole story yet. But I also hate to confuse things....

The trick is to give the media what it wants.

As per dB a CD wants 44.1 samplerate / 16 bit resolution wav... check.

To post here at HRC you need a 128 samplerate mp3..... check.

Standard DVD likes 48 sample rate 24 bit resolutin wav.... check.

There are also considerations such as 'dithering' when changing resolutions. Read some of the mastering articles here in the tips section.

I think Walt meant 'bitrate' there. It's easy to get the two confused.

And I think all bitrates are acceptable for upload here, though the faster ones take up more of your alloted space. dB, is that still correct?

Yeah, I just validate it as a real mp3.
