i just ordered a book on the BEAD system. it involves simply realizing that from string to string you are moving in fourths. so technically, i guess, i shoulda done what i probably shoulda done in the beginning: memorize the circle o' fifths.

this has got to be the easiest way to learn the fretboard, for sure.

Never heard of it. I think I am getting a review trial of fretlight though (still working on it)...

the cover of the grimoire has the circle of fifths on the cover, and yes...it's more or less the 'decoder' of scales.....they don't call them intervals perfect for nothin'!

forty, i'm don't know you well enough, but i'm willing to bet if you get your fingers 'in the habbit' of going where you want them to go, the music will pour right out of you. (the trick is knowing how it will sound before you play it)

book knowledge is good, but if you jam on a major scale using random notes with it, on time in 8th notes, that dosn't mean it WILL work.

my rule, if you hit a sour note, bend it up, or slide down, then repeat it again so it looks like you did it on purpose!

db, wow. you're getting a fretlight? wow. i must get one of those this year. the thing looks like it could make me into a real guitarist. if you don't ultimately want to keep the one you get, i'll buy it off you at a slightly reduced price!

yeah, the BEAD system looks good. i am always into memorizing broad rules only and then using them to quickly unpack anything i might need to know in the moment. if i can learn to always know what note is a fourth up (or a fifth down) from any other note, that might be the ticket. then you'd be able to see the notes across any fret pretty quickly. i think that's all there is to BEAD.

just getting it to review...then send back to 'em...

if I like it, then I start negotiating for a slightly reduced price myself... :-)

On the upside, I am going to be publishing a review of it, so I'll let ya know what I think of it myself...for whatever my opinion is worth to ya.

There are few terms I hate so much as that one. Ever since that basketball player used it to justify beating up a fan.
