Sampling a song

I tried to take a song and cut out the sample i wasnted to use and then save it just with the part i wanted, but then when i tried to import it to my fruity loops it wouldnt let me. I think fruity loops only lets like 4 certain files. How would i be able to get around this so i can use my samples? And is there any place to get free samples or drum kits for fruity loops?

Fruity will use .wav files for sure, just make sure that's the format you're using. It'll accept other formats as well but .wav is the safest bet for most sequencers.

My personal favorite for acoustic drum samples is nskit7free, available free here:

But you can use anything in .wav format...just do some Googling and you'll find more than you can shake a stick at.

how 'bout some kinda 'format converter' to go from .wav to whatever .zgr or .rbs is?

i know in reason, to get the loop machine to work properly, all loops needed to be converted from .wav to .rex...which they made a bundle selling just the program that did it (Recycle)...but i digress.

I use Fruity Loops myself and it does in fact accept .wav samples. I only use .wav samples in my sequencing...I don't think I've ever used anything else.

Open a new project and right-click on any channel in the channel strip. Select "load sample..." and then browse to where your .wav files live.

It sounds like you're trying to open a .wav file as if it were a project (.flp). You have to load each sample on its own channel once you've opened a project.

FL will play wav files on the bottom (some demo songs have this) but it might be the higher levels, like producer.

I haven't tried it though, so I'm not sure how to test it.

Yea, i was trying to open the .wav file as a project, instead of loading it 1 by 1. I will try to load it 1 by 1 and i bet it works. Thanks alot Tad. Oh and another thing is, how do i get all the files to load up into the fruity loops. Because my friend opens up his fruity loops and on the left side in the folders he has all his samples that he got himself there. I was wondering how do i get all my samples in a folder on the left side. I have fruity loops 5 producer edition.

i'm no FL user, but i bet all ya gotta do is move your samples into your fruity loops folder, should be under C: > program files > fruity loops (or whatever the company is named. then the program will 'see' them.
