thats great man. in my opinion The production is professional sounding, and the guitar work is great. Though i am not a fan of songs that are just songlenght guitar solos, its a good song, the guitar playing stays fresh the whole way through.

Great job

I loved it, and I do like instrumental music. The guitar never did get boring as they sometime's do in a guitar only tune. Did you record live drum's or are they programed? It sound's like you have good sound coming from your POD. I swear by my POD, and have not had a live guitar rig in my studio in over a year. What guitar are you playing the track's with? Again, I thought it was an excelant mix, and a well writen tune. That could easily get played on a progresive radio station. Let us know when you have more.

Peace,

thanks, fellas ! I actually wrote that thing almost 10 years ago. I programmed the drums in Sonar, and used the DR-008 for sampling. It's my very first finished product on the PC. Noize, I don't know how I ever got by without a POD !! I use the thing live, too, and it's by far the best investment I ever made. I play an Ibanez RG-750. I have a few more tunes in the works, but I'm slower than Boston when it comes to gettin them done !! I'll put another one on in a month or so ! Thanks for the kind words. Aerosmith is on 'Behind the Music', so I gotta run. C-ya!

Oh, PODS rocks! last night Noize and I recorded some bass guitar through it as well. Noize turned me on to the POD a few years ago, too.

I'll try to listen to your tune in the next couple days...Noize told me it rocked so Ihave to listen.

Well, now that was one of the ^%&@%#%@!# best instrumentals I have heard in ages.

Here is what you are gonna do, ed, you are gonna sit down and write a tutorial about how the hell you got that crisp and clean bass sound. There is now way that is a sequenced bass, and it frickin rocks. The guitar was razor sharp.

Then, when you are done with that tutorial you are gonna upload a few more tunes so I can listen to some more.

Excellent! Now get to work. ;-)

Yep, if I still played live I would probably have a POD Pro in my rack. If you haven't loaded the Sound Diver app for it yet you should. And hook it up to midi and dig in and let it rip. Although you do have Sonar, so you could use the control panel app that was written for the POD in Sonar and it will let you get in and contro all the stuff Sound Diver does. YOu can get at some extra amp model's and speaker model's and really tweak the daylight's out of it.

PS, I told ya it rocked dB... :-)

Well, I'm glad someone got the link to work !!! Thanks for the kind words, and also for the fake cuss words! That absolutely IS a sequenced bass track. I did it all in Sonar, and I don't know off the top of my head what the bass sound font is that I used. I think it gets kinda thin during the double lead, personally. I sequenced all the drums, then loaded up the DR-008 with my favorite (at the time!) samples, and let it rip. I'll have to load up that tune again a let you know where I set my FX and such. After I get them done I burn them to CD and get 'em off my hard drive.

Noize, I've been using Sound Diver for a couple years now. I love the way I can configure different banks, and I visit Line6's Tone Transfer Library fairly regularly. Of course, that's just for the sound end of it. I've yet to figure out how to use the studio ware panel in Sonar. I can get it up, but I can't make it respond. Believe me, I've tried dozens of times! I just wanna figure it out cuz it looks so cool! Naturally, the manual isn't real helpful in this area. If you can help me get it going, I'd be greatful.

Anyhoo, thanks again for the compliments, and I'll let ya know when I get something else done. I really do take longer than Boston to get something done! C-ya

Sequenced? WOW, that is the grooviest bass sequence I have ever heardm the higher notes have a little sharpness about them that the lower ones don't...wow...I'm, I'm, I'm...stunned...

now if you could get the song up at a place that works all the time!
great job

I'd agree with everything said here the sound you've achieved is excellent and you could have told me you used a top live band and I'd have beleived you. Home recording quality can't get much better.

However, just to put a small fly in the ointment, the 'song' isn't really a song, no words, no melody or chorus, no hook. It is a great instrumental 'track' asnd a great showcase for your undoubted musicianship.

Personaly I like 'songs' and they are quite difficult to come up with (good ones that is).

How about teaming up your talent with some guy who can sing and write lyrics to get things even better!

Please don't take offence, just offering another perspective on what you've done.

So it's not a song if it doesn't have words and basic pop-music structure?

I dare you to tell that to Trevor Rabin or John Paul Jones :-)

My personal style is rapidly evolving into instrumental music as well and I beg to differ that lyrics make it any more of a song other than the fact it makes it more commercially marketable. I also feel that marketability is no way for a musician to judge music, leave that to the teenage record-buying public.

I am not taking offense, nor intend on starting an argument, just presenting a apparant flaw (in my opinion) in your thought process.

Definition of a 'song' from the internet...
"A brief composition written or adapted for singing.
The act or art of singing: broke into song.
A distinctive or characteristic sound made by an animal, such as a bird or an insect.
Poetry; verse.
A lyric poem or ballad."

I'm not going to get into a silly argument. The guy's track is an excellent piece of music/musicianship (like I said). But it's not a 'song', in my opinion.

Let's agree to differ.

that's fair, a noise made by an animal is a song but a piece of music without lyrics isn't...hmmmm, curious...

however, yes, silly argument...

Actually, if you listen to Joe Satriani, you really can hear verses, chorus, bridge, and solos. I think his guitar emulates vocals. I always have thought that. Not that all guitar instrumentals are like that, but his certainly are. I love instrumental guitar songs, and I enjoy playing them. I don't think I'd ever do an entire album of them, but it would be fun. Oh yeah, it's a great way to show off, too !!!

Sorry guys, I suppose I must have been in 'pedantic' mode at the time I kicked off this thing about the meaning of the word 'song'.

I suppose the 'bird song' definition undermines my argument!

(Still prefer the term 'instrumental' in this case though !!)

Some of the world's greatest discoveries were the result of a mission gone off course. Having said that, it occurs to me that I have nothing to back the statement up with, making it useless boonedoggle. But anyway, db, no problem here as far as the is it or isn't it thingy. I did notice that when you found yourself on the verge of an argument, you slipped in here disguised as Sponge Bob !! Nice try !!!!

I never got those guys..........but think of all the recording time you get when those Ren and Stimpy marathons are on !!!!

BTW, the bass soundfont I used in my song......er, instrumental, (hahaha) was a sonic implants font that came with Sonar. It's in the rock bass bank, and it's called 'Bigger Sub'.

Sponge Bob rock's, and he does it right on my little mixer. Got his as a christmass present from a pizza girl last year. Now he just sit's and watches me work, or not. And my kid's even got me a giant sponge bob balloon delivered to work on monday, that was a riot. Oh well, back at it.
