I'm lookin to get some mics and this is what i came out with after lookin.
4-SM57's
1-Shure Beta 52a
2-Oktava MK012a
These seem like good beginner mics for recording?
Also I'm lookin' into getting a large diaphragm condenser mic for vocals but I'm not sure on what one to get. Any opinions?

Apr 06, 2007 02:09 am sounds like a decent list to start you off, LDC-wise, check out Audio Technica 4033.
Apr 06, 2007 02:56 am Sm57 is a must have, i would also check out some AKG mics, they are really great and they have good offers on some mics
Apr 06, 2007 08:10 am Looks like a decent collection to start with. 57 are a staple...LDC mics, well, there is a lot of choices and everybody has their opinions, just go to the store and try them...then come here and buy them from zZounds :-)
Apr 06, 2007 11:04 am You can try mics at the store? I've never thought to ask. I suppose it's just like testing a guitar before you buy it.
Apr 06, 2007 11:11 am Ya should be able to, I always have...if they don't let you I'd be skeptical of the place.
Apr 06, 2007 12:41 pm Yeah I guess, just never hit me as something you can try out at a store. What would you be looking for when trying them? Clarity, volume, tone?
Apr 06, 2007 01:07 pm yes.

Apr 06, 2007 02:59 pm Indeed, and the clear choice will not be so clear until you try a couple so you can notice the differences. Rode-NT1A is something I'd at least check out.
Apr 06, 2007 08:38 pm Thanks for the help! I'll probably go to my local guitar store and try them out then come back and buy them online. The guitar store charges an arm, a leg and $20 bucks for pretty much everything.
Apr 07, 2007 12:14 am I did my research and checked out the Rode NT1A and the Audio Technica 4033. I see that the Rode won a award for the most silent mic by a magazine. Yet both have perfect reviews. I also went ahead and checked the Shure KSM27 which had perfect reviews. I think all that's left to do is test out those 3.
Apr 07, 2007 08:59 am And don't forget potential dynamic mics like the EV-RE20, or the Shure SM-7. They can be used for live vocal records, too, although they'll be more reliant on a good preamp.

Apr 07, 2007 09:04 am Shure SM94 is a great mic, one of my secret weapons, and under 200 bucks too.
Apr 11, 2007 02:51 pm definitely MXL for a large diaphram if your on a budget.

Apr 11, 2007 04:28 pm Studio Projects is a good line to look into as well. The C1 has some pretty good press. I have a B3 and a C1 from them. I like them so far, though I haven't put them through tons of use yet.

Apr 11, 2007 05:09 pm Local guy has the SP tube mic, pretty nice for the price I think.
Apr 11, 2007 06:14 pm Well, you guys just answered my question from another thread, so feel free to ignore...
