OK, quick question. is there anyway to draw automation onto a track. then use the fader to move the volume of the track, moving the automation with it? that make sense? like lets say one word in my vocal track is to loud. i draw automation on that one word to make it even with the rest of the vocal track. then if i feel the vocal track as a whole is to quite, can i move the fader and change the whole track volume?

Mar 02, 2007 05:14 pm hmmm yes and no....here's what i do, right click on the track and insert a volume envelope...ya gotta creat four nodes on it one right before the word two durring the word, and one right after the word...so that gives you your volume 'dip' for the offensive word...then after you set that, you can grab the whole envlope (blue line) and raise everything up or down, including your 'dip'...OR sometimes if i'm feeling lazy, i just adjust the trim on the track....i'm sure there are other ways in sonar 5, i'm using 3 STILL! so that's how i do that manuva....pay close attention to where and how the fade moves gooin' into and commin' out of the area...the trick is to make it unnoticable.

Mar 02, 2007 05:20 pm You should be able to 'grab' the volume envelope in the edit view, and simply move it upwards, thus raising the volume of the entire envelope . : )

Mar 04, 2007 02:14 pm Melty, indeed you can draw the automation in using the steps WYD stated. I do it all the time as it is sometimes faster to just draw it in then automate it with a fader. More accurate as as well. You might want to try and normalize the track also to level it out. Or use a compressor on it.
But ya for those tiny spots I simply add nodes around the offending part and pull the line down between the nodes that are surrounding the offending piece.
