That's a pretty good deal. If it weren't for my re-20, I'd probably take you up on that. I have a pair of BX5a's that I absolutely can't stand.

$150 is a great price for those speakers. They have served me well, can't say enough good about 'em.

I would totally do that but i have no power amp. So i guess to re-write the question, monitors for under 200 that are powered.

It shouldn't matter much, you can get adapters.

$200 for both monitors AND a power amp is a much better deal than you're going to find in a store, man.

Git 'er done.

Dammit dB, stop it. I just got my tax refund and thoughts of audio shopping are smackin' me around. If you still have those JBLs in a week or two, we may talk. I'm also thinking about a new power amp. None of these things are necessary, but hmphpmm...

TOYZ!!

30 seconds on Google netted me this:

The JBL 4206 Studio Monitor is a 2-way near-field monitor with a magnetically shielded 6.5" woofer and titanium dome tweeter. This is a NON-POWERED speaker so you'll need to have a studio monitor power amp to run them. The monitor can handle 75 watts RMS (300 Watts Peak). The Alesis RA-300 or equvilant power amp should work just fine but a larger power amp would give you more headroom.

JBL has developed a "Multiradial baffle" that simply aligns the center of each speaker (2 in the 4206) vertically so they have the same source point. If you look at a 6" speaker you'll notice that it's about 4 to 5" deep while the 1" tweeter is only only say .75" deep. If you mount these two speakers on a flat surface the sound source (voice coil) of each speaker is quite different. Thie ends up causing all sorts of frequency cancellations when the low-frequencies from the woofer are added to the high-frequencies of the tweeter. They are added together in the air (acoustical summation) of the studio. The Multiradial design is meant to reduce this frequency cancellation effect. It also is suppose to improve the stereo imaging as well as reduce ear fatigue by this alignment. This theory is based upon the sound engineer is 3 to 5 feet away at the apex of a triangle formed from the two 4206's and the listener. If your studio uses a smaller or larger area you should think before purchasing these monitors.

I have heard these speaker and find that they do sound great. They have the "JBL" sound and it does require that you get used to them. The 4206's are magnetically sheilded so they can be used near video monitors and computer monitors. A TIP: I have friend that who a couple of months ago purchased some used Yamaha NS-10s that are not magnetically sheilded. He said he doesn't need them to be sheilded because he's using LCD monitors. He then got a job mixing sound for an independant film which required him to use a video monitor - He had to use my monitors which are Tannoy Powered Reveals and are sheilded.

Features:

* 2-way design
* 6" woofer
* 1" titanium dome tweeter
* Frequency Response 65Hz to 20kHz Useable
* Frequency Range 38Hz to 21kHz
* Multi-radial baffle Design
* Magnetically shielded
* 8 ohm Impedance
* 2.8kHz Crossover Frequency
* 75 watts RMS power capacity
* 300 watts Peak

I just bought some Samson ResolV 40a's. Small, self powered and sound pretty darn good. Optional subwoofer if you want one, I haven't got it yet.
