Guys

We were back in the studio doing some recording for our next release which we are hoping to improve vastly on our last one with.

Anyway, we got 2 tracks done. I done all the recording in the normal way - tracked via the Fostex VF160 >> Cubase and mixed it there.

MIC'd the drums using just 3 mics (2 x 58's and the B1) and all else, DI'd except my guitar of course.

See what you think on the mix...

All feedback, much appreciated.

Cheers

Wow! Love the way the intro builds, starting with the toms and then the Les Paul riff and then the bass and rythm guitar.

A bass solo!?!?! Awesome. I never get a bass solo!

This an incredible arrangement...different from most of your other stuff. There seems to be a surprise around every corner. False ending is great. I gotta rank this up there among DMR's top songs.

Most definately iPod worthy.

I hear some spots where the vocal is a little bit off, and where it could be enhanced with some Coco harmonies (like during the chorus...) While I LOVE the bass solo, it loses the groove in a couple of places...may want to re-cut it.

All in all, another great song. I can't wait to hear the finalized version.

I'll bet there's more DMR on it's way!!

Dag-Nabit! I just finished buring the HRC mp3 CD for the car since the new head unit plays mp3 and wma files. Now I gotta do another one just for this tune.

Yeppers, gotta agree with everythign Jim said. Nice to see you delving into a little differant arranging style indeed. I'll be given it some more listens and if I hear anything I think could use some work, I let ye know.

Cheers guys...

Very much appreciate yer feedback and input.

Jim - cheers for this. Its very useful for sure. I reckon the bass is off at the end too (the restart) - its played at the high end of the fret board and the tuning sounds off to me...also, I hear ya with that grove comment, I agree,,,cheers for re-afirming!

The slide on the chorus is fillin the void of the harmony but I reckon I will add some filler vocal as ye suggest...good call man.

Indeed...cheers for all this cool feedback, ye will never know how invaluable it is to hear others fire back to ya, what ye need to hear...

Noize - cheers man!!! Indeed, and to make mattters worse, as we speak, Im reuploading a better version....couple of hours mixing, moving and cleaning up...I still reckon the acoustic on the right needs to come up a bit but, with that in mind, rest is sitting quite well notwithstanding retakes methinks whihc, I reckon we need a few bits here and there.

Cheers guys..its good to know, I can get good impartial advices which is sound and reliable.

All the best guys

Man that's a top song Coco! I too like the intro and the way the song is arranged. Little different sound on LP for you, sounds great though, cool riff thru the song. Not sure if I'm listening to the new mix, but sounds pretty dang good to me. It has that live energetic sound to it. I would bring the acoustic up some more and maybe even the distorted guitar in the left channel, I do hear what your talking about on the bass at the end, it is a tad off in pitch in the hi parts.

I'll second having some Coco harmonies in there, would be icing on the cake! :)

Love hearin' you guys, so keep the songs coming!

Hey Dan - Thanks for takin the time and the comments bud , I appreciate that for sure and glad ya liked it.

Aye, thats the acoustic changed now - I agree entirely, it was way too low. A little EQ and some more volume...sorted.

Im gonna have the bassist redo the whole bass track as its a little wayward at times...teh good thing is, he said to ME he wanted to redo it after hearing the first mix and didnt realise the take wasnt as good as the first thought...no problem though - better that than having to debate the point with him !! So, all good.

Gonna also, retouch some of these vocals but aye, a new mix should be done in a couple of weeks by the time we get our nxt gig out the way etc...I'll repost a more final mix (Im playing the keys now as well for recording purposes so I'll maybe mess with adding some keys here too).

Cheers again bud, much appreciated.

OK Guys

So here is the final cut of this song...I was going to change it radically but decided against it as we're heading back into the practice room to write a whole load of new songs (pretty much a whole new set!!!) so, we're just living with this as a final mix and gonna really hammer the next demo far more...

Noize, cheers for yer help in all this with the offer etc and I will be in touch with ya at some point in the future with all that if yer still free and game...good man, much appreciated always.

Anyways guys - you can get the track here;

Titled "Burn On" ... enjoy !

Nice, it has a real live room sound to it. The guitars nicely behind the vocal. Nice slide sound going there. Did you play the slide part? And indeed gotta agree with Jim on the little bass solo part, real nice sound there. Love the silent break in there.

Now I gotta go through the whole lot of em as it made me wanna listen to more DMR. :-)

And indeed I'll be at yer disposal whenever yer ready. I'm surely up for a DMR remix.

And hey, a quick note here. tonyoci is looking for more music again. You should send him several tracks to get played on the Home Made Hit Show. Here is the link to the recent thread. www.homerecordingconnecti...11318&frm=3

And dang, Throw yer Hand still is the rockin tune it always was.

Hey Jim

Cheers for the listen and the comments - I appreciate that bud...indeed, tried to incorporate as many suggestions as possible and with some retakes, cuts and additions it seems better to me too. Glad it worked...

Noize - cheers for the listen too man. Indeed, our bassist played that slide (he's actually big into blues and especially slide blues, but, thats more for him - we dont do blues in the band) but this is sure cool to have on this song and fitted we think...

Again cheers for the listen and that remix offer - it shall happen (though maybe for some brand new songs were gonna write which will possibly replace a large chunk of our set (and current recorded works!)...we reckon, we can do a bit better than some of the older stuff...

Cheers again

Coco.

I really like Burn On. Great lead lick - but maybe used too much. Wonderful Slide!!!! Love it. Not so sure about the bass solo.

I went to your web site to listen to the other tunes. Really good tunes, Coco. They have a great live vibe to them, and because of that I sometimes have difficulty making out the lead vocal lines. The harmonys are good.

My opinion, and it's worth what you are paying for it - is that all of the vocals need a bit of polish, a little pitch correction here and there...but then, the raw sound is perhaps what you are going after.

But overall I really like your stuff, as is. Who knows, maybe polishing up the tunes would cancel that great live vibe. Just my thoughts.

I found the link in another thread you started and am listening now. So I'll post some comments there.

And indeed, I always double check when I copy/paste a link to make sure it works. It seems sometimes they dont paste the same, dropping a character or few.

Dono

Cheers for the listen and feedback. Alas, that bass solo is the thing most others like but tis good to hear others points too...always good.

I think I agree to a point on these vocals - a lot were one or two takes at most. The worst ones are most likely when the singer had a cold and I made um record like the slavedriver I am ;-) !! But as I say, its good feedback and a lot of it, I think is bang on the nose.

For info guys, that live vibe may be the way I recorded. It wasnt live BTW, but I did go for that feel...so Im glad it comes thru. I was more a move towards recording us as live as possible (tho every track was single track overdubbed) with the exception of 3 songs (Can you guess which??) which were done with DRUMS + ACOUSTIC RHYTHM live with eachother...all the rest, overdubbed instrument by instrument.

For the next demo, Im gonna bite the bullet and get the thing done in our rehearsal studio. The guys in there are bang on the nose, not too expensive and I Am keen to hear how someone else might hear us...their work is good so, thats my plan. I have recorded all those tracks using nothign but a VF160 (with the 8 channels max) and used basic gear i.e. 58's and a few drum mics on 4 tracks (Again, can you guess which ones!!) and htats it !! Nothing more. all dumped in Cubase for mixing and mastered afterwards using HarBal...

So, nothing special. BUT, I Would like to try the studio doing it for us...it wont cost too much and I'd like to hear anothers take on us.

Note: I am in no way moving away from doing recording - but for the band, I wanna relieve some of the work and pressure from being the lead guitar player/backing vocalist and sound engineer/mixing engineer/mastering engineer ;-) !! (just for once anyway ;-)

Anyways guys - cheers for the listens and feedback - much appreciated.

Regards

Coco.

Hey Flame man

Good to hear from ye man...(flame the band ;-) !

Indeed...the clown one, I aint never heard before mate ;-D !! haha !! BOOM BOOM ...

Nah, seriously - glad yer liking it...tis my favourite production thus far (if not favourite song) ... a bit better than my previous attempts I think and , with the same gear, far better drum micing ... just 2 58's with grilles unscrewed and a Behringer B1 ... thats it.

Cheers man, appreciate the listen I do bud!

Coco (not ze clown ya monkey ye ;-)
