What's the coolest gear you've had stolen?

Seeing Noize's reply that he'd had a custom-built solidbody guitar stolen mere weeks after he recieved it got me to thinking. With the portable size, inherent value, and pawn-ability of most music-related gear, they're prime targets of theft. I'm sure that just about everybody here has had some piece of gear stolen from them at one point or another.

Myself, I've gotten off pretty easily. My only theft was my very first guitar back in '88 or '89. It was a 3/4 scale Kay LP knock-off. Luckily it was virtually worthless. While we were away one weekend, somebody broke into our house and stole only that guitar and a camera. Not a very smart burglar, eh?

Ah, read the title wrong, thought it said "Whats the coolest gear you have stolen". I was like for shame tadpui, I thought you knew better.

But, coolest thing I've had stolen from me was my amp. Crappy crate half stack, but still better than nothing.

haha Loki, I haven't stooped to that level...yet :D

Oh wait, I take it back. I ended up with an ex-bassist's hardshell gear bag. I still use it every time I travel with my guitar rig. Even thought I didn't actively steal it, I didn't make an effor to give it back :D

Besides a zildjian stick bag... my Fender 300 rackmountable bass amp was essentially stolen but I recovered it.

I loaned the bass amp out to Lee, my ex bassest, for a week... which became two... he called and said he'd drop it off the following week... a month later I called him and he said it was in a different town and he needed a ride to get it. 3 months later I called him and he said a guy by the name of Trevis Bick (previously of Broomtree) had it and gave me his phone number... I called - no answer... I called a week later... no answer... not even an answering machine... I called a month later and got a lady. "Oh! I think he moved to California... he didn't leave me any forwarding contact info, etc." ... I thought for another month... then I realized he might have close relatives in ohio... so I grab a phone book... and call every single Bick in ohio starting in the Circleville, Ohio area... after three cold calls I find his dad. :) "Oh! He left that amp with me!... thats a nice amp..." I celebrate. I then drive an hour and a half to Chillicothe, Ohio to get my amp back.

I don't loan things out to people any more. :)

Dayum Zek, thats like a quest for the holy grail or something.

Haha, yeah you gotta watch those bass players. They're compensating for those 2 missing strings :-)

I have been looking for a picture of the thing in some old pics and cant find any. And the one website for a local band that had a picture of a guitar he built to look like an F-16 the pic doesnt come up. I'll keep trying though.

But other then having my entire sample library stolen that was the most devastating thing I ever had happen.

Yes indeed, the data loss is the most horrible thing ever for me. When I was robbed about two months ago, my wonderfull XPS2 laptop *sigh* had 2 takes each of 13 songs worth of drum tracks which we recorded at a nice studio. When we realized we couldn't afford it we did 5 whole songs worth of unmixed tracks at my house, plus my 48 cd caddy with all my software was in the same backpack :(

So if we are talking about "any" kind of gear I lost...

46" TV :(
XBOX 360 and games
2xExtremely nice laptops
The above mentioned guitar
and all my software...

*goes to bed and cries himself to sleep*
