Kick Drum

I'm not sure if this exists, but is there a plugin or some way to get a sample of a kick drum and have that sound replace the current audio kick sound?

I would suggest using a wave editor to place the sample in the needed spots and cut out the exsisting kick sound. This could be made easier if your drum track loops, then you could do it once and loop the modified version. Other than that, since the file is audio, there would be no way to automate a process in which a specific sample would replace an existing wave form.

well...You could run a MIDI track along side the drum track and program the sample to play along in time with the exsisting kick and then just cut out the old kick afterwards. Then you could blend the drum track and the new kick drum track together. I don't know if its worth all of the trouble though and there may be an easier way that I am not thinking of.

I know that there's a way in a couple of multitrackers to use an audio file to trigger a sample...we just had a discussion about it here in the last 6 months. I can't remember the details tho. I'll do some searching and see if I can find it.

You have to convert the kick tracks to midi and then use the midi data to trigger a software sampler... or real sampler... or softsynth...

converting the audio to midi is the hard part as I only know how to do it in SONAR... atlease in SONAR 2...

check and see if you have "extract midi timing" available as an option... it works llike this:

Drumagog?

Is that what you're looking for?

I've heard good reviews. Haven't tried it myself.

Yep, all versions of Sonar support the Extract Timing feature. I use it all the time, it works great.

Otherwise what I also do is just open a new audio track below the drum track and place my new kick sample and line them up with the old kick. It takes a little longer, but if you dont feel like spending the $200.00 for Drumagog it will certainly work fine.

You use Drumagog all the time or that feature? I don't use sonar so I'm not sure what you're talking about.
