My computer is making a LOT of noise recently. I've tried kicking it, that doesn't help (lol j/k). But I'm seriously lost as to what could be causing the nois. Any ideas? It sounds like a whirring

Ya, if you are hearing the box itself (not through your audio) then it is probably a fan. Be sure to check the fan on your processor RIGHT AWAY as you can fry that sucker pretty quick if it is not cooling properly.

Yup, check the fans. I replace fans ever few years, they're so cheap! Also check the drives! I had a SCSI drive that was louder than any fan in one of my computers. But now, it's dead Jim...

those little fans wear out pretty fast...especially if you're a smoker. that tar combines with dust to produce one of the most lethal computer-killers known to man. or machine. my parents have now killed 3 or 4 computers in the time i've had 1. my mom is a chain smoker when she's on the computer.

Also, the good fans have double ball bearings, the cheap ones are single. The good ones are quieter and last longer...

And if you run your like I run mine, even the good fans wear out pretty fast.

And Loki, double check the HD for sure. I cooked a WD, and I do mean cooked it. It was so friggin hot I could not touch it. And it was screaming louder then any worn out fan ever could.

As a side note, I pull my boxes out every 3 months and give em the old air treatment. You would be surprised at how much dust collects in them in very short order.
