Per an agreement with a friend, I'm coming up with a new song idea every week. We've just been swapping short clips and such.

Well this week's idea ended up being a bit more elaborate. I just had so much fun doing this one that I wanted to share.

(A little parental advisory in the first verse, just because)

Its still a sketch, or at least thats what I keep telling myself in order to justify keeping those out of tune vocal tracks in the mix :D

But you get the idea :)

Hey thats really good Tadpui! Sounds very upbeat, a couple of off's here and there maybe but 2nd listen thru and nothing really jumps out at me in the vocals they sound very good. Nice mix, I had to listen quietly tonight on the speakers but the everything sounds great, nice and clear. Real nice acoustic sound.

Hey thanks for the listens fellas!

I was going for that "Summer Teeth" happy/sad thing where its a pop song on the suface but darker in lyrical content. My first attempt here didn't quite capture that...Ive got some work to do on the lyrics to tone down the cheesy rhymes. And the structure is a little inconsistent, I need to firm it up a bit.

What I REALLY want is a keyboard player who has some samples like a Mellotron or a Calliope or some sort of carnival-meets-steam whistle kind of sound for the solo instead of the quick and dirty guitar solo.

Cool song Tad, and yeah a calliope would set it off, for sure . Nice sound, all 'round .

Cool, thanks guys!

Kaos: they're real claps. I compressed the crap outta them because they were so inconsistent. Apparently I'm not good at clapping hehehe. I did 2 tracks of clapping. One is centered, the other is hard right (or close to it). The shaker is mostly left, with some not-too-heavy compression and a pretty good dose of reverb on all 3 of these "percussion" tracks.

Hue, you got a calliope laying around anywhere? :D

heh, I think the Cheesemaster has a pretty terrible one in it... but when I think calliope, I think 'fortymile'... I really like that distorted calliope sound he gets for Uncle Dude(if that is him playing it ?)... it's just a bit twisted... in a good way !

Might do very well in this !?... perhaps he could give you a hand with it ?

Thinking a bit further on it, and after having another listen, that may be a bit overpowering on this 'un . You're probably looking for something a bit more calliope... softer .

Tad, do you have a software sampler or player that load a wav file. I think I can arrange for the calliope for ya.

I will have to listen again tommorrow a bit louder, but I thought it was great as is. I was smilling the entire way through, and that is good after today.

Anyway, an excellant tribute to happy, in a dark way.

Hey thanks, Noize! Let me do some Googling and some listening to make sure that a Calliope is the sound I'm thinking of. I'm going to have to find a song that has a similar sound...I don't know quite how to describe it other than like I said above: "carnival-meets-steam whistle".

Tad, I had another listen today. That is a great track indeed. Not to compare or anything but it does remind me of a lighter version of UncleDude for sure. Very fun sounding, and well recorded I might say as well. I liked the mix for sure.

I can understand the thought for the calliope, but I dont think it really needs it to be honest.

I cant wait to hear what you decide to do with this track.

I was just watching Alice's Restaraunt, and Arlo Guthrie told me that it may need a kazoo instead :)

Tad,

Great song! It really took me by surprize! Sounds very professional. Acoustic guitar sounds great. Your vocal seems very Dylan-esque to me...and I mean that in a good way! A little harmonica (or kazoo) would round it out just so...

Nice work.

Sorry i didn't get to this one sooner! A really fun sound. Love the solo guitar part. Vocals are pretty cool too. I think you could lose the claps at some point or another. Maybe use them only on the chorus? Very clean recording and an enjoyable production. I think a calliope at some point in the song would be very cool too, maybe like 10cc, "From Rochdale To Ocho Rios". I really enjoyed this! Really like the acoustic guitar solo! Very nice sound...
