About Pan sapiens

Began playing guitar around 5th grade (I am 19 as of 2004). My first recording experience was with an 8 track tape recorder back in middle school. I wasn't happy with the quality of its recording and largely gave up on recording until my junior year of high school. At that point I began recording myself with a crappy program called guitar tracks by cakewalk on my 350mhz desktop pc. I did so simply by running a signal from my guitar through a korg G3 (7 year old, super-simple effects processor and for my purposes, preamp and compressor) and straight into my computer's microphone jack (don't laugh). Believe it or not this method actually worked quite well and allowed me to make a few surprisingly good recordings for almost no money at all. Since then I've been idley shopping for a good recording setup for the laptop I bought when I left for college. Needless to say I wasn't quite so lucky with the sound I got when plugging directly into the microphone port on my laptop. I bought and returned a fostex mr-8 because even my measely guitar tracks setup allowed me more editing freedom and the flash media meant I'd always be scrounging for memory. I also bought and returned an m-audio duo primarily because it didnt allow full duplex recording or whatever it takes to be able to hear what your computer is recording while it is doing it. I also have acid 4.0 but have only used it a little bit as my computer currently lacks a viable audio input. While I used to be interested in recording gear for the purposes of only guitar and vocal arrangements, I have now become increasingly interested in such artists as squarepusher and aphex twin and am hoping to finally buy a recording and music editing setup that will accomodate with some dabbling in that genre as well.
