ok heres the deal, I'm going to start from scratch with my room, becuase it just sounds so bad. hah. I'm not trying to soudns proof it, or isolate it from the outside world, i jsut want stuff to sound good in it. drums espcially, sound bad in it, very bassy, very muddy, which cant really be fixed to well in eq. So i ask you guys, what would you do? im looking toward foams/bass traps ect. to help with this problem, i have like a $300-$400 budget. My room is 10ft x 12ft with 8ft high ceiling. so its pretty small. carpetted floor, one wall is taken up by a pretty large window, and the rest is painted drywall. the walls are bare just like everything else.

I've looked at a lot of sites concerning acoustics, and i just cant grasp the terminology or its talking aobut building a room, which i dotn want to do. If you guys know sites that puts this stuff in super laymans terms that would be cool too.

thanks

I just saw on the DIY network on satellite, they use a 8 inch round concrete form. Made from thick cardboard, it's very tough.

Anyway, they taped off one end with good tape, then filled it with sand, and taped off the top end. Put one of those in each front corner (home theater room) and it is reported by the show guy to tame down bass. Seems cheap and easy, I may give it a go and see what gives.

If that don't fit yer fancy, look up hermoltz resonators, or slat resonators. Reportedly, they trap low freq waves of differing ranges, depending on how they're built.

They're pretty cheap and easy to build as well.

Basically, foam won't do much for the low end you're problemed with, you need mass and/or air space. Maybe one or both of the above ideas can help.
