Oh, man, these are the best times for American Idol, the beginning auditions. It's when all the real numbskulls pop out of the woodwork for a few moments of TV time and to entertain us.
So far there were a couple really good singers, but none that blew my socks off yet like in previous seasons...some cool highlights:
- One girl/guy came in and was asked to tell them something interesting about him/herself, it said "I often get mistaken for a girl, which totally cracks me up" to which Randy Jackson responded "huh, you are a guy?". The guy was wearing girl clothes, had a very high voice and sang a cover of "Queen of the Night". They rejected him, upon leaving he said, and I am paraphrasing, "If they can't accept somebody trying to sing something they can't sing, thats just prejudice"...ummmm, OK.
- One girl, quite possibly the stupidest human walking, comes in with the weirdest color tan and caked on makeup...here is an excerpt of their convo:
Simon: Tell me about your tan
Tan Girl: Well, my name is Cryst...
Simon: No, tell me about your tan
Tan Girl: OK, I'll be singing...
Simon: NO, tell me about your tan
Tan Girl: Huh, oh, my tan? Yes, I tan
Simon: Rolls eyes and laughs...
she actually had a little unrefined skill, but nobody could get past the plastic look, they asked her to bring her mom in...well, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...

Also has had a collection of decent singers, sucky singer, stupid people, one guy Simon told to shave his head and become a female impersonator...
It's been funny as hell so far...once they narrow it down to all good singers I don't watch so much, but my wife and daughters watch them all.

Jan 19, 2006 10:48 am Didn't see the tan girl (made by Mattell by the look of things), but I did see the guy/girl. Er...Ok...His Mom's white lipstick was quite something.
'er indoors had it on (switching between that and the skating thing...). There was a bubbly girl in a terrible dress who was actually quite a good singer. She covered Bjork of all things.

It's funny, on the idol forums all the kids are saying how pretty the tan girl is and all that...Pretty? WTF? She was so unpretty I could hardly stand it...I can handle trashy, actually, a certain kind of trashy can be sexy, but she was just...oh, I dunno...yuck.

Like you say, these are the good ones to watch. I don't get into the rest of the season although my wife watches it faithfully if it doesn't interfere with Survivor or that amazing race show.
Anyways, it is entertaining.

Jan 19, 2006 02:50 pm i've seen both shows. this is the first season ive watched. you know that guy at the very end of the first show, the guy who was jumping around and yelling and going crazy? he's from my hometown and one of my best friends knows him.
the tan girl was so ugly it was unbelievable.

lets see, as far as good singers, i liked the bearded bald headed rock guy, the twins who did cool harmonies, and a few others.

That bald guy rocked, he was nervous, but there is definately skill under those nerves...I didn't watch all of the two episodes, my wife said I missed a couple really good singers whilst jumping on and off the computer all night...
That nutcase they let through just to piss off Simon? Your buddy knows him, thats awesome...You could tell Paula said yes JUST to piss off Simon...

too bad about them twins. i hope they get to compete. i also liked a few of the crooners.

Although he didn't audition to be serious, he kind of had this weird character he maintained through all the rounds. but i got to go with him as his guest to round 2, and 3 (where he got booted) ... if you're interested i put up a ton of pictures here:

Who watched last night? I think the name was Kelly Pickler, her mom bailed at age 2, her dad has been in and out of prison her whole life and she lives with her grandpa, nicest girl, sweet thing, good voice, the kind of person I would like to see do well...
But Rhenetta (spelling?) a big fat black girl thinks she is the greatest thing walking got PISSED when she didn't get picked and totally started smackin on Paula after leaving...jeez a serious verbal "homegirl" style verbal assault...

Jan 25, 2006 10:08 am yeah, the kids and I watched most of it last night. That pickler girl was great, real heart wrencher.
I was totally dumbstruck by that other girl, singing that billie holiday 'take five'. Truely a natural, and only 17. She should be living large in about 4 months.
Yeah, Rhonetta was a trip, I think she was out for publicity, maybe cash in on a '15 minutes of fame' like William Hong did.

rule of thumb, DON'T wear a belly shirt if you HAVE a belly.

Jan 25, 2006 08:36 pm I saw the Rhonetta clip as I walked in the door tonight from work. Wanna be hottie is right. No mini skirt or belly shirt belongs on that broad.
I will have to hit the Idol site and see if there is a clip of the Pickler girl. She sounds like someone who does deserve a shot for sure.
I wish I was more of a TV person, I miss so much good stuff.

Jan 31, 2006 01:39 pm She has a good voice, is cute and has a dramatic story, all the makings of somebody that the public can get behind...unfortunately, last years winner was a cute blonde with a great voice...just not the dramatic story.
I hope she does well, she is somebody I can cheer for, but I doubt she'll win, she wasn't THAT good, but she is very good.

Yep, she is good indeed. I think the show would do well to have story like that one go all the way and win. But man, Simon is right about one thing. She sure is loud.
