Man, that's impossible for anyone to answer. But you, after you've played them both for a few hours =).

Anyway, if I was buying brand new right now, I'd get a GT-8 and a roland JC-120.

giggity-giggity-goo.

On the comparison side of the two mentioned, if you're after the marshall type sound, it's all about tubes, which I don't beleive the dfx series has, so if it's about re-creating the tube sound (or any other sound, for that matter) the line 6 probably has a better stab at it. Between those two, I'd probably go with the spider, as you'll have probably better overdrive modelling, and lots more other type sounds that are pretty darn good.

I know there's lots of happy pod users on this board, plus I've been around a few pod users as well, and they've gotten pretty good sounds.

Hey Murphy, I forget what type of music your into but the Spider is a very versatile amp. And loud as well. Definately rivals the Marshall you are looking at. As well the tones you can get out of the spider will cover a much larger range. Hit up soundcontrol.co.uk and see if their price isnt a little bit less as well. Or at least the same.

But back to the amp. I have played through a Spider several times and loved it. Havent tried the brand new model yet but I am sure it will be better then the one I played a year or so ago.

But as pjk stated, you might be best off going down to the music store and trying one out and let your ears decide for you.

there are sooo many amps out and a # of combo's priced well. so I'd check them all out in price range. Vox Line 6 ,marshal ,ect. I'm a line 6 fan my self but it's all down to what's going to work for you.

I've never been a huge fan of Marshall myself...I know I am totally in the minority in that, but unless it's a modified, super-hotrodded Marshall, I just don't like 'em. I'd take the Spider, for sound and versatility you really can't beat Line 6.

Thought in either case I'd rather see you buy it here if you get the Marshall:

Oddly, Sound Control doesn't have the Line 6 you mention, but lots of others...

Try the SansAmp Tri-AC with their power engine 60. Lots of versatility, and the option of so many different sounds from Mesa Boogie type, Marshall, Vox, Fender, you name it. You can also just plug the Tri-AC into the mixer and not bother with hefting cabs around. The power engine is just a power amp, and speaker cab. The Tri-AC is the pre-amp. It also has some lovely bass sounds available for when you're recording. Convincing SVT emulation. Very tube sounding. Just a thought. Don't limit yourself. Try everything, and get what makes the right noise for you.

To me, there is nothing like a Fender Twin at full bore. Gets to my soul. But that's just me.

Get a Marshall AVT - The AVT100 works great for me, and I know a few guys who use the AVT150 and they say that works for them.

It's a bit more than 50 watts, but it's not that much louder. I'd take it over the Line 6 any day. IMO the Line 6 Spiders don't take to recording very well...
