memory question, peeps

just occurred to me that i could and should raid this old computer we recently replaced over here for RAM. i dont know why i forgot to do this for like a month.

so i pulled out the cards. there were two.

one says 16x64-pc100 on the little sticker. it has 8 integrated chips on it. the print on the chips says this:

NCP
NP33S8 161128K-7.5
0441 8MX16

the other RAM card has 4 IC's and a label that says:

P16M648YA9-75A
128 MB PC133 SDRAM
0333 N 3 6 4 0 6

which of these cards has more RAM, and why does one say PC100 and the other PC133?

i have a very dim awareness of these things and i have my own guess here, but i just put down all the info because i want to be sure, and to really know what i have on my hands here. i dont know how many open RAM slots my music computer has, because i havent looked for that, but the system diagnostic tells me (i had forgotten) that the thing has only 512 RAM. so i want to see what i can do here to beef it up. i guess i could add both cards, right?

still, just trying to get the final tally here.

also, when adding RAM, what should i expect? will there be a major increase in performance? i only have to snap them in, right? then boot up...

im guessing theyre both 128.

but what else do i need to know. i heard some motherboards have certain limits as to how much can be added (not even due to slot availability). i guess, after reflecting more, the main things seems to be what th hell pc100 and pc133 mean. i mean i guess if they were both in the old computer...

i...dont know how much longer i can wait before i just go slap these puppies in there.

Yes, they are both 128 meg strips. The pc100 and 133 are the max buss speed they will operate at. Not sure if your newer computer will be able to use them or not. But if you have slots available then you might be OK. I know my MoBo doesnt take to kindly to mix and match RAM, but some MoBO's dont give a rip. All that will happen is you probably wont boot up, or you'll get a memory error if they dont belong in there. If you do have 2 open slots, try the 133 first, then add the 1000 next. If it doesnt barf on ya then your in the good.

Dont expect a huge performance jump with 256 meg added. Especially since they are not matched buss speeds. But you will notice some improvement you recording app for sure, just not certain how much.

so if my bus speed is faster than 133, these things wont even work? how can i find out what my bus speed is? i think i know what will happen: i will notice no improvement.

bah, digital stone age. the number of tabs is differnet, i discovered after trying to ram a 3-tab card into a 2-tab slot. hope i didnt damage anything.

i await the day when machines can discover other machines/devices in their proximity, automatically recognize them/work out a communications protocol, and simply utilize the resource.

if you bus speed is faster than 133 those sticks shouldn't even fit...

i discvoered that. i hope i didnt mess anything up by trying to force that thing in there.

you know, i regret that i never learned the basics of automotive stuff, also. and things would be generally easier with computers, i think, if people would just lay off on the acronyms for everything. i went to a halloween party recently, and it was a bunch of music and video techies, and although i knew what they were saying about the music stuff, it must have sounded like robots speaking code to the girl i was there with. this is what happened to me with computer hardware. i didnt read up in the beginning because i wasnt that into it in the beginning. well, aside from programming in basic as a kid.
