Hey guys, i'm doing a school project on drumming and i want to figure out how i can record myself playing but stil have the mixing options to be able to have the great sounding drum track over the video. I want to avoid using the camera's mic if possible. let me know what is possible :)

Nov 01, 2005 04:09 pm Set up all your mics, then set up the camera. Grab a speaker and a sine wave generator. Hit record on the camera and on your computer, then play a really loud tone for about a second. This will be picked up by the drum mics, and the camera mics, so when you bring the video back in, as it imports with the audio, you can sync up where the sine wave starts and ends. Same principle as a clapper board.
Thats how I would do it anyway.

Nov 01, 2005 08:33 pm ... I would build a clapper (aka slate)... I made one out of a whiteboard a 1x8 and a hinge... roll audio and video clap the slate and when syncing line the clap sound to the closing of the slate.
Nov 01, 2005 09:51 pm Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so THAT'S what the clapping business is all about.
Heh, I always wondered why they did that.

Nov 01, 2005 11:28 pm If you were running Sonar or Cubase you could just send outsync to the cameras audio and the when you import the video into Sonar it will sync with the audio.
But the tone burst will work as well. Thats the old fashioned way I learned to do it.
Nov 02, 2005 12:30 am I always thought the clapper was just so you could keep track of how many times the actor screwed up (take 300)..lol. Learn somethin new every freaking day! =)

Nov 02, 2005 01:16 pm If you've got a video-capture card in your compy, you could just load the video, and the audio separately and sink them with the program that usually comes with one of those things . I think mine ran me only 50$, so if you don't have one it may still be a viable option .
