Tascam US-428

Hey guys, I'm posting this because I've seen the us-428 talked about a couple times on this site. I've owned it for close to two years now with little trouble at all, up until recently. I'm thinking its either malfunctioning, or its possessed! While I'm running Cubase SX 2.0 the virtual faders (especially the master) will jump up and down by themselves... making it pretty impossible to mix properly. I have also noticed the signal and "overload" lights will flicker randomly, even while I'm just surfing the net!

I figured it might have been a driver issue, so I downloaded the lastest from tascam.com, but this didn't solve the problem. I then installed Cubasis (the software that comes with the Us-428) on a different computer with the latest driver and stilled had the same problems. So I am convinced its the hardware itself.

Now, I am planning to upgrade to a Presonus Firepod for the extra inputs and such, but would really like to keep the us-428 for a control surface. Does anyone else have any of these problems? I'm trying to avoid shipping this and getting it fixed for more than its worth, but whatever will get the job done.

Thanks in advance guys!

Sounds like hardware for sure. Especially if you have removed the old driver, installed the latest new and allowed the firmware in the unit to re-load. I have experienced lock ups with mine depending on what else I am running on the system from time to time, but it is easly remied by allowing the unit to reboot and reload firmware. It could also be the USB hardware in the puter. There is always that possibility. Check background tasks too to see if there are any other codecs etc. that might interfere.
